Nothing to appreciate during winter as all are covered by snow. Although it’s always free entry, maybe better idea for tourists to spend time in somewhere else during this period. Must be more interesting in summer though.

Lovely in winter, I'm sure it will be amazing in summer.

Free entry and an interesting collection of various plants beautifully arranged. A lot better than I expected!

Love this place. Recommend for a stroll. Free entry and beautiful maintained garden.

Quiet park with many different flowers and plants. Very well maintained and not crowdy at all (end of afternoon visit), perfect for a quiet walk. Toilets available but not for free.

Fairly small and easy to walk around, some good grassy sitting areas, small greenhouse, some pretty flowers, decent sized parking lot. Not a main attraction for Akureyri but a pleasant spot away from crowds. The cafe building would make an amazing reception/event venue.

One of my favorite stops in this city. Don't forget to donate to support this gem. Nice washroom facilities and cute cafe that is built with style. Nice place to stretch your legs and enjoy a northern botanical garden. Must visit for garden enthusiasts.

We were there a little early in the season, so there was very little blooming. The grounds themselves are very well laid out and I can just imagine how beautiful it will be once it's in full bloom. The are lots of pretty seating areas, my favorite being in front of a rock garden with a tower of stones.

On our way from the North Cape while travelling above the Arctic Circle we had to visit this, the world's northern-most botanical garden. It's by no means large, only 3.7 hectares (9 acres), but is beautifully laid out and maintained, and full of many beautiful Icelandic and Arctic flora. The fountains and greenhouses in the gardens are also definitely worth visiting. The Akureyri Botanical Gardens (Lystigardurinn) function both as a public park, initially created by local housewives and first opened in the Spring of 1912, and as a botanical garden in 1957. The gardens are also used for scientific research into the survival of plants and function as a gene bank for hardy plants suitable to the weather conditions on the Arctic edge. You cab get a good coffee in the modern, cafe/bistro located in the center of the garden and sitting outside on the patio area on a nice day is a great way to enjoy the garden surroundings. The cafe also has gluten-free items on its menu. The drive to the gardens is quite enjoyable passing typical Icelandic homes in the older part of the town. It's easy to see why this garden is Akureyri's pride and joy.

Awesome place, slightly hidden. Officially open between June and September but obviously it also it depends on the weather as it was open already in May now. Entrance is free and there's also a nice looking café inside.

Lovely and peaceful place to visit in a warm day. Lots of different plants and flowers. There is a cafe where you can have some lunch. Although is a nice park, If you are in a hurry visiting the area I will not recommend to lose time there unless you're very interested in Icelandic flora.

Fantastic botanical garden! There are so many species on display and they are very clearly labeled. The garden is well laid out and perfect for meandering through. There's a cafe, a gazebo, and several water features throughout.

Beautiful place in August. I was there with a botanist and we were able to kill an hour without either of us getting bored. The coffee shop was cute, with good muffins. Prices were similar to a downtown city in the States

Very expansive and lovely garden - I was always baffled by how many twists and turn and little paths there were throughout the area - it's very fun to explore. The whole place has the feeling of a park, but the thick vegetation makes it more serene and private. It is lovely.

Nice stop for a casual stroll. Not on the same level as other city botanical gardens I've seen, but impressive number of flowers and plants growing in such a chilly outdoor garden! Cafe in the center is small and pricey (didn't order anything), but there was also a nice display of photos nearby
