We stopped here on the way to Grenen. Really good idea, with snow, it was like in fairy-tale
Danish desert moving across the land to end up in the sea. One of natures funny wonders and definitely a must see if you make it this far north :)
Definitely worth a visit. A walk on this giant dune feels like walking in the desert, with beautiful views all around.
A Sahara desert just a few kilometers from a highway! I was totally surprised when I saw the sand dunes. My wife suggested we'd visit the place, and I had no idea what to expect. The huge dunes, white, hourglass-like sand and amazing views really were worth the detour. We spent an hour playing with the sand and having a picnic. The kids had great time too.
Amazing natural phenomenon with a huge amount of sand moving a few meters every year. Definitely recommendable.
Beautiful and very interesting place of the Earth, a moving dune, a real desert in the middle of northern Denmark. Passing it you have the feeling of walking in the Sahara or on the Moon. The sand is yellow the sky is unbelievably blue, performing an amazing contrast you will surely enjoy. Whenever you go to Denmark, it is a must to visit this special attraction of the Mother Nature.
feel like walking in the desert...incredible nature
This is a great place to bring kids of all ages. To get to the top you need to be fairly agile though and wheel chair access or strollers is not possible except a few days a year where a walking path is laid out like you see on my pictures. The sand dune looks very impressive from the parking lot (free parking) where there are designated spots for passenger cars and autocampers. It can be a bit difficult to find a long spot for autocampers or caravans as some passenger cars doesn't respect the marking. From the parking lot you walk through the most beautiful dunes up on the big Råbjerg Mile Dune. From the top you can see the ocean on both sides of Denmark on a good day. Kid and most adults (self included) thinks it is very fun to run down the dune again. The sand is some of the finest and softest you will find in Denmark. The dune is the biggest migrating dune in northern Europe and has an area of around 2 km2 or 0.4 sqm mile and a height of 40m or 59ft. Which is almost a mountain in flat Denmark. 😉 It is visited by more than 250.000 people every year and is a must see. Expect to spend 1-2h here if you have kids and 1h if you are just adults.
Really worth to go, but don't go from morning to afternoon, lot's of people here, best before sunset whit a bottle of wine
Unexpected landscape for DK! Worths a visit
Amazing view from the top and very interesting place.
