The Anne Frank House (Dutch: Anne Frank Huis) is a writer's house and biographical museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank. The building is located on a canal called the Prinsengracht, close to the Westerkerk, in central Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
During World War II, Anne Frank hid from Nazi persecution with her family and four other people in hidden rooms, in the rear building, of the 17th-century canal house, later known as the Secret Annex (Dutch: Achterhuis). She did not survive the war but her wartime diary was published in 1947. Ten years later the Anne Frank Foundation was established to protect the property from developers who wanted to demolish the block.
We went to several holocaust sites while in Amsterdam and this was by the far most moving. This place is worth every penny and every second waited in line. The displays and audio tour of the house are put together in a very user friendly type of way. I feel like I got every single detail from every display. The documents and preservation of the house was amazing. I truly didn't expect so much of the house to be as it was when the Frank family was hiding there. The staff were amazing! Very polite and friendly. We had an issue with our electronic ticket and stopped by before our scheduled time to sort it out and they brought us in and worked through the issue with us to make sure that we didn't miss this museum while we in Amsterdam.

An absolute MUST visit when visiting Amsterdam! It’s a great experience that is both super informative but also very moving. The guides tour inside lasted about 1.5 hours and takes you through both the museum and the actual Anne Frank house. PLEASE NOTE: You must book a time slot in advance online to get in so do that as soon as you know you are going to Amsterdam. We book a week in advance and the only time slots were before 12 and after 20. But do visit this place!

This is one of the best museums in Amsterdam. If you're interested in history this place would make you feel back on the time. You need to book the tickets online with at least 3 days in advance because they are making some reparations and the tickets sold out really quick. If you want to know more about Anne's story you can book also a guide explanation before you go to the museum is totally worth it because it helps to understand even better the details once at the house. Otherwise you can also get just the ticket for the museum and with the audio guides you will get the most relevant information. Enjoy it

Amazing place and very well preserved. So moving to be in the actual place where Anne Frank’s diary was written. Museum exhibits are well done. Very popular, you have to reserve online in advance your entrance slot in 15 minute windows, so plan ahead. A new museum building next door is still under construction so I’m not sure what entrance rules they will have once it’s finished.

The atmosphere really takes you back to when Anne Frank lived there. It was very informative and give you a ladder detail about the people that live there. It was very neat to see where they stayed and how they were hidden. Everyone knows the story but it is definitely different seeing it in person it makes it real. A lot of things were being restored at the time but they were still able to tell the story. The audio is great throughout the museum.

It was amazing to see where Anne and her family hid. The museum had a free audio guide and progresses in a very orderly fashion. Although the house is empty, they have pictures on the walls showing how it was furnished and set up during Anne's stay. The museum store has copies of Anne's diary in all different languages as well as blank replicas of her diary to help you start keeping your own record. There are guidebooks, books about Anne and a paper model you can buy to assemble your own miniature of the building. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained.

This was a very life-changing experience. There’s no way possible you can leave this house not being humble and not looking at your own life and seeing how easy-going your’s is. Not many pictures to share here as photos are not allowed inside in order to be respectful. This is phenomenal as you get to climb up very stairs that I am friend walked and into her room where she hid for such a long time. This was very emotional and having read the book and growing up with the story just adds to that. There is so much history around and even those who may not know the story can quickly learn the story because they show the before during and after effects

Very emotional tour of the home of Anne Frank. Amazing to see how they lived whilst in hiding. They have preserved the original features and even postcards that Anne had stuck on her bedroom wall. Lots of video footage to watch throughout tour. Very very steep stair cases some almost like a ladder. Well worth a visit

Brilliant and very moving. Some great info and artifacts. Lovely gift shop. I have heard it can get extremely busy, however we did not experience this. Monday seems to be the best day to visit most things, as 90% of the tourists have gone home! No photos are allowed so don't bother taking your SLR!! Fairly priced. Would recommend booking online as some of our party that attempted to go on the Saturday were told it was fully booked all day. Great experience all round and I will definitely be back for a second visit.

One of the most amazing experiences of my life. We had a great host that gave a talk of the timeline during WWII and the Frank's family life. During the actual tour, there was a real placid atmosphere throughout, as everybody was so engrossed in the history and the story of what occurred literally where we stood. You can walk around at your own pace and the hand held audio guides are easy to use and very informative. It is a must if you're visiting Amsterdam.

Canal-side building now repurposed as a museum in testament of its past inhabitants and purpose. Most of the exhibits are displayed through video clips projected on the various walls, with quotes from the diaries and document scraps interspersed between. These are audio tours, so bring a set of corded headphones to avoid having to hold the listening device to your ear for the entirety of your visit. Be sure to make a reservation in advance (available as early as two months in advance).

The birthplace of a story that changed my life. The Diary of Anne Frank is a story of hope, history, inspiration and humanity - and to see the annex she so vividly describes.. to walk on the same floorboards just as she did... it is an absolutely humbling experience that is unrivaled by anything I've ever experienced. I found the visit to be educational, emotional and I felt it honor her life and story so beautifully. I recommend visiting for yourself. May Anne's story live on.

Great museum. As with most/all museums in Amsterdam, you have to buy tickets online. For this one, book as soon as you book your travel. It can be filled up to 2 months before but they also stagger tickets. I was able to get tickets on the day (2 hours notice). The museum itself was very nice (for what it can be). Information isn't forced in your face like other places. Definitely worth checking out

A must see if you are in Amsterdam. You must purchase tickets online. Your tickets are for a particular day and time. They are usually sold out 2 months in advance. Daily, around 6pm, the website releases unsold tickets. If you go to the website and keep the site open and keep refreshing your screen you may see tickets becoming available. We were some of the lucky ones that purchase tickets for the next day. Good luck, it was definitely worth the effort.

The newly renovated visitor centre makes a visit to the secret annexe a bit easier on those of us with knobby knees. Whilst u still have to climb up to see the famed annexe, the way down is through the back building. The visitor experience is great. My only gripe (and it can't be helped) is the crowds! No matter the time of day, u will often feel inclined to hurry through as visitors keep shuffling in. Still worth a visit (or 3) if you are in the area.

Historical place from a literary and social aspect. Having read the Diary of a Young Girl, I was keen to see the place and experience the emotions attached to it. Tickets can be bought online, but it's usually sold out for a few days together. A Must-go. Alike many, we also had the issue of not knowing that tickets can be booked two months in advance, so when we checked, of course it was sold out. But worry not, check at 850/ 9am, and there would be tickets released. (Even my family of five managed!) the museum is informative, and creates a suitable atmosphere for audience to understand and reflect on the past. The audio guide comes along with the tickets, and was suitable for young children as well. Do not miss out of this experience. It was truly eye-opening to see the place Anne Frank and her family hid

Wonderful experience and historic value! I would definitely go again! I was happy with the audio tour and that once inside the historic area you were able to take in the experience without the guided audio tour. It allowed for a different emotional experience and connection. And thank you for not having a gimmick filled gift shop! The items available for purchase are appropriate, thoughtful, and have historic value to them.

Wow. Just wow. Very well done with excellent audio guidance. The fact that 3500 ppl go through this place a day, and 1.5million per year (if I remembered that one correctly) is incredible. Get your tickets ahead of time, because they aren't available at the door. Tour actually flows pretty well, and you can go at your own pace. Like any historic location, it really hit home when you realize all that took place inside the walls where you are walking. Highly recommend!!!

The staff was very helpful when I had a problem with my ticket. The audio tour is very informative and I liked how it activated in every room. The only disappointment was the modern look of the new museum rooms. It would have felt more authentic to upgrade it but keep it looking like the correct timeframe. It creates a disconnect. I was happy to have gone though. It was my main reason for visiting Amsterdam.

They have turned the hideaway into a museum; I'm not sure how to feel about that. It all comes equipped with hand held recorders that you can listen to while you walk through. I think that has sterilized the space in a huge way; instead of it being a very personal & moving experience, it has all the feel of your local museum. People need to know that this is the space that protected these families (& 1 single person) & also where they were found & taken away & that should always be a space to reflect; not a place to move through because a recording is guiding you through it. I love that in Anne's room there are still pictures; newspaper cut outs of her favorite movie stars- that's the kind of thing that keeps the space personal & emotional.

Very good place to visit while in Amsterdam. Tickets can ONLY be bought online but not a lot of people know that. Also, it's best to keep trying since their website refreshes for available ticket every 15-30 minutes. The place has very good information regarding the Frank family, the situation back in the year 1942-1944. I highly recommend it!

Tickets are only sold online now, 80% in advance and 20% day of. I managed to get some on the day, but they go fast, so I advise that you buy yours in advance. What more can I say? This is a must do, even if you haven't read the book. It's a piece of history that everyone who has the chance should experience. A truly moving and beautiful experience that I will never forget.

Nicely hosted. Great experience for the family. Tickets are very hard to get but you can get lucky if you try. Nicely done with a well thought out layout and time well spent setting up the house. Something to see when you are here.
