Very nice and polite community. We visited market on Wednesday at 10:00 to 12:00, but you need to check a which day is the market open, it is available only 4 times a month. Almost all markets provide you possibility to taste different types of Edam cheese before buying the right one for you. We encountered about 25 different types and flavours. Everyone speaks English and they are happy to tell you specifics about factoring the cheese.

A little touristy, but fun to see and not as crowded as Alkmaar. There's a little market as well, buy some food and drinks and enjoy:) The fish is really good! The picture shows the square when there is no cheesemarket. ( They are weekly, but only on Wednesdays during high season) Ps There's a supermarket nearby (Deen)

Beautiful markt (during the summer) in a really 16th century beautiful village. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere and the Grote kerk can be visited as well for free if it is open (during the mornings I guess).

We visited 5 years ago and we a little disappointed. Visited again in 2017 and the transformation has been fantastic. This is a market you must not miss if you're in the area. A great historical display and reenactment, as well as great cheeses, stalls and atmosphere. The prices at the stalls were cheaper than from the cheese factory's that we'd visited, and we even cheaper than many of the shops in the area. A great time was had here by ourselves and our kids.

I was quite dissapointed in that nothing was going on when I visited here. Unlike Gouda, Edam is a simply small and pretty town. There should be so many things to be desired to meet its worldwide reputation.

They explained how they make the cheese and then they gave a demo on how wooden shoes are made.

I visit this place on Tuesday. Unfortunately the cheese market transaction only held om wednesday. But we take some picture around. Very nice place indeed..

There was a really nice atmosphere, cheese everywhere. There was a show going on along with lots of cheese stalls. I thought there would be a bigger variety of cheese, it was 90% Gouda.

Save yourself the trouble. Honestly this is NOT authentic or cultural whatsoever. It is very rehearsed and scripted and very silly. Not to mention there are WAY too many tourists crowding and pushing to really make it anball round miserable experience.
Instead, I would suggest taking day trips to Delft or Lieden. OR going to Edam on any other day than the cheese market.
