Eye Filmmuseum is a film archive, museum, and cinema in Amsterdam that preserves and presents both Dutch and foreign films screened in the Netherlands.
Eye Filmmuseum is located in the Overhoeks neighborhood of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Its predecessor was the Dutch Historical Film Archive, founded in 1946 by David van Staveren, Felix Halverstad, and directors of Filmtheater Kriterion Piet Meerburg and Paul Kijzer. Following the accession of the archives of the Filmtheater de Uitkijk, the archive was renamed the Netherlands Filmmuseum under the leadership of its first director, film collector Jan de Vaal. The Filmmuseum was located in Kriterion and Stedelijk Museum until 1975, when de Vaal succeeded in acquiring a discrete space for the Filmmuseum in the Vondelpark Pavilion. In 2009, Nederlands Filmmuseum merged with Holland Film, the Netherlands Institute for Film Education and the Filmbank and plans were announced for a new home on the north bank of Amsterdam's waterfront. The Filmmuseum was renamed the Eye Film Institute Netherlands and was officially opened on April 4, 2012 by Queen Beatrix.

Nice architecture, good museum and some nice films once in a while. Also good overview over the water and the central station on the other side. We were there for our annual company meeting and the guided tour we had was really very informative.

Beautiful building and some nice exhibits. I would recommend having a walk area this foreshore area and maybe relax by the water if you have some time to burn. Free ferries running all day, everyday.

I suppose for a great service dress up?? I thought this was a causal place to eat! Although the food was really nice can't be said about the staff! Maybe if I was thrown my money around I'd have got a better service. The surrounding areas are beautiful!

Very cool venue! Love the architecture. The ferry from the train station is free, after that a short walk. The view from the restaurant, deck and bar is amazing!

This is one of the most overrated places in Amsterdam. The building is very nice but inside there are not anything special. The presentation of independent films is the best. Some modern art inside is in exhibition all the time, but I think it´s very common and kitsch. The good thing is that you can take the boat from Central Station to there for free because in Amsterdam you have to pay for everything, and the quality no deserve that expensive prices. One hour is enough to stay in this place.

Beautiful place to go for a drink or a bite. You can't beat the view during a sunset! Both inside and out on the terrace are great. The cinema here is -like the building- quite new and comfortable. A nice screen, a high room and ceiling and good sound. They don't have many movies showing at any given time, but that's not what it's there for anyway.

Fascinating experience and really great space for artists to showcase all kinds of modern features using film. The location is great right next to the big swing and on the river. Simply going to see the architecture of the building is a must in itself

The building and location are fabulous. The view from the cafe is worth the price of admission. What a pleasure to be inside. Lots of 'pods' for watching movies as well as many full cinemas. If you are interested in film it's a great choice. Missing one star only because I'm not interested in film.

Saw 2001 A Space Odyssey in original version there...the sounds was incredible and it's super cosy. They could stand to turn down the AC, otherwise it was superb. I highly recommend the Eye.
