Pieter Teyler van der Hulst (25 March 1702 – 8 April 1778) was a wealthy Dutch Mennonite merchant and banker, who died childless, leaving a legacy of two million florins (in today's terms: about EUR 80 million) to the pursuit of religion, arts and science in his hometown, that led to the formation of Teyler's Museum. This was not the value of his entire estate. He also founded Teylers Hofje in his name, and made important donations to individuals in the Mennonite community.
Pieter Teyler van der Hulst was born on 25 March 1702 in Haarlem in the Dutch Republic.
Amazing victorian technology museum, the first in the Netherlands. Great exhibits, some of the oldest in Europe. Science is heavily represented and supported by theatrical presentations. We visitied the Lorenz exhibit. Perfect for schools and groups. The surrounding town is also worth a visit.

Good mix of minerals fossils and art, very nice architecture and friendly staff. Can be a little crowded but still enjoyable and easy to move around.

A little museum with a lot of things to see. Very interesting, pictures, technology from late 1800, fossils and much more. I miss more interaction with tecnological devices. A pity.

Teylers is the oldest museum in the Netherlands, and an absolute treasure trove of strange items and evidence of early scientific exploration and experimentation. The place is lit by natural light, so go during daylight hours, ideally when it’s sunny! This is a great place to get an understanding of the curiosity of the human spirit.

Awesome museum that keeps adding new and interesting things. Impressive building.

Museum that looks deceptively small but is jam packed with incredibly interesting artifacts. It might even be my favorite museum in Netherlands! Go with lot of time at hand. It's part of iamsterdam card. Worth making a special visit to Haarlem just for this!

Amazing interactive fun museum with a great collection of impressive displays. Especially the fossils. Highly recommend :)

Loved the experience, beautiful and well kept exhibits, touch of antique wooden displays, the flooring and glass roof. Beautiful, but try to avoid crowds. Also visit the museum shop to buy a fossil tooth!

Great little museum. Way more than I expected to see with a wide variety of subjects covered.

Amazing fossil collection and electricity generation machines! The building itself is already impressive enough.

Wonderful collection of eccentric and eclectic odds and ends from the domains of paleontology, science and the arts. The building is a thing to behold in itself, especially the wonderful entrance hall and the Oval Room. Well worth a visit, but be advised that even though the museum offers guides in English, many of the labels on the exhibit pieces are in Dutch only.

Great museum with very friendly staff. They have an exhibit that is designated to mythical creatures such as Bigfoot, the Lochness Monster, and Unicorns. I thought this was pretty unique and interesting. They have a collection of a lot of other cool things too.

Dit is een erg fijn museum om naar toe te gaan. Ook met kinderen! Educatief en ook leuk door de tentoonstellingen. Oud gebouw maar erg mooi.

Not extremely impressive, but their fossil (no dinos) and mineral collections are pretty good, and they have a few interesting paintings. The signs are only in Dutch, but the ticket price includes an audio guide (at least in English) with entries for many pieces. The museum lies a bit off the beaten track, so not too "touristy".

A beautiful old building packed with instruments and fossils. It breaths history and everything is good to see. A changing item (now: dutch drawings of the nineteenth century) makes it worthwhile to return now-and-then.

One of the most amazing natural history museums I have ever been to. Fossils and other relics are stacked on the wall in a way that’s almost impossible to see everything the first time. Whether you’re a lover of natural history or just in the area, I highly recommend.

Very diverse small museum with great fossil collection, minerals, science instruments, and high quality dutch paintings. The building itself is beautiful. Unfortunately the explanations near fossils etc are only in dutch but the audioguide in english helped me.

Gem of a museum. Lots to see here and it is really enhanced by the audio guide. You could easily spend 1.5-2 hours in this museum.
