The Amsterdam Dungeon, in the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands, follows a similar format to the London Dungeon, York Dungeon, Berlin Dungeon and Hamburg Dungeon which are owned and operated by UK-based Merlin Entertainments and attempts to show history through an interactive adventure. Live actors, a ride, shows and special effects simulate historical dark and bleak times, it was first opened in September 2005.
The Amsterdam Dungeon also has sister sites in the London Dungeon, York Dungeon, Edinburgh Dungeon, Berlin Dungeon and Hamburg Dungeon. Each Dungeon is based on the same theme but investigates the history of its own local area. The Dungeons are owned by Poole-based Merlin Entertainments.

The scariest thing about this place is the amount of time people have wasted here. The actors are really good (full credit to them), but it is not scary and the jokes are pretty lame. There was one bit at the end which was mildly scary, but that’s only 5 minutes out of 1 hour. If you’re easily frightened by loud noises you might find it enjoyable.

So much fun!! I have done it in London and now here too. Book in advance on the day. Last one at 5pm. I bought photo package for between €15-25 really cool photos. Lots of fun !! Goes down 3 stories below ground level great actors and actresses. Free beer or soft drink/water at bar which is really tasty.

This is a wonderful experience for anyone that loves a good scare! The attraction is reasonably priced and discounts are available. The layout of the attraction was done very well and the tour guides were very informative! Great attraction for laugh!

After reading the reviews we thought lovely we will enjoy this. Honestly I'm really glad we didn't pay full price for it. We waited in a room for 20 minutes for it to start. There was a few funny bits and maybe 2 scary bits. It really didn't live up to the fantastic reviews it's gotten. I wouldn't recommend at all

Attended here with my girlfriend. We found a off-peak ticket from one of the Tickets&Tours which was €15 each, entrance after 1700. This is really good experience and provides plenty of scares/jumps throughout, they also provide a little history aswell throughout the tour. The tour took approx 90mins going through various sections and each section was played by a different actor in a new scenery. They like to perform audience participation which was quite amusing. At the end you are provided with a free drink, which can either be Water, Coke or a Beer.

The dungeon unfolds as a couple of role played scenarios in which the audience (you enter in groups of ~10 people) is often asked to participate in fun ways. Despite the name it is not overly scary and suitable for everyone. Even the "faint of heart" and "horror is not for me" people should be more than fine here and can expect to have a good time. Alternatively if you are looking for a truly bone shaking and horrifying experience and this is the only reason you came, you might end up a bit disappointed. Overall it is very entertaining, engaging and definitely worth a visit!

I don't really have a bad thing to say about this place. The actors all absolutely love their jobs, or are great actors. The crowd is involved at every step of the show as you progress through their actual dungeon. The show is pretty funny and very entertaining. Please go if you get the chance. I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised.

Incredible experience. Interactive fun and fear show. Great actors. Great props and decorations. Well worth the wait time which did seem excessive until I found out why. You just can't rush too many people through this experience. Recommend this show as a must-see for anyone going to Amsterdam.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Prepare to turn the pages of HISTORY! The amsterdam dungeons are a thrill and a fright all wrapped into one spooky bundle. From the great character actors to the special effects it is an excellently executed performance that grabs your attention at every opportunity. I'm not ashamed to say that at one or two points I was grabbing onto my girlfriend for safety... Due to how dark it it could be a prime spot for pickpockets, we had a little trouble ourselves but it definitely didn't ruin the tour for us.

A "guided" and amusing tour. Actors mostly amuse, once in a while give little short scares, while teaching a bit of history. Cool gift shop. Cheaper online tickets (19€) and even cheaper to come before 12:30 and/or after 16:30 (17.5€) (check their website).

My 14 year old daughter and I had lots of fun here. Quite similar to the York dungeon we've visited but with some different Amsterdam based history! Don't go if you'd hate to be picked on by the actors because its quite interactive!

Had a really great experience here. Was picked as the "volunteer" in almost every room, was put on trial for being a witch, burned at the stake for being a witch, made to assist in inspecting a dead body, called Strange Name, Ireland, Little Skid Mark and more because none of the actors could pronounce my name (understandable). Felt both mild fear and intense enjoyment while here, props to the guys and gals that run this place

This place is the biggest waste of time since watching grass grow. The most boring tour I have ever been on. No mobile phones allowed to take pictures staff getting so into roll play they just look like crazy people. I would describe it as more of a comedy tour than a history tour. There are way too many people per tour leaving you in a room packed like sardines on the way to Auschwitz. As we were walking out of a room a said thank you Mr crazy person. And the tour guide grabbed me by the throat and said who are you calling crazy man? crazy man. I then grabbed him by the face and hit him in the face with my water bottle. The staff called the police and the police sided with me and he was arrested and that ended the tour. 0/10 Oh and the exit sign takes you to a gift and tat shop the real exit is hidden.

A great way to learn the darker side of Amsterdam's history in an interactive historical setting. The Dungeon can be counted as a ride of its own with the humour and scares involved in this hour long journey through time. The show starts at 11AM and runs all day without session times they just take groups at a time.

Girlfriend nearly had a heart attack. Would recommend. It was a fun experience with a show that really has a lot of effort put into it. Actors are convincing enough for the most part and the act does contain a lot of audience participation, so don't stand out if you don't want to be an unwilling participant. Actors do get a bit lost in character sometimes, which does result in some belittling form time to time in situations where people do not really understand English or are hesitant to join in, but I suppose you know what you were getting into when you entered the Dungeon.

I've been to a couple of these in the UK (London/York) and this is on par. The actors/actresses were scary and funny. There were some fun maze-type activities within it, some jump scares and good laughs. Then at the end, refreshments (including beer!). I really enjoyed learning about ye olde Amsterdam in this setting.

Very awesome and in perfect English. The performers are amazing!! It’s wonderful that they involve the audience and it’s funny mixed with some scares. Highly recommended.

A fun break in between all the museums and coffee shops! It’s essentially a performance haunted house. They take some events that have occurred in Amsterdam’s history and you are lead through different rooms where an actor in character performs a “bit” and all the actors were great. Maybes it’s you getting sold into a ships service, a medieval autopsy or the trial and burning of a witch, a pleasure my wife received. I thought it would have been a little more historical, touching on specific events or people and it wasn’t but my wife loved it and I definitely enjoyed change of pace. Took about two hours all together and I feel it was worth the price. Great thing to do between events or as a group.

Extremely good acting by the staff. The ambiance is on point. However it only takes 3 stars for me because it lacks the rides that The London Dungeon offers. Maybe if they add a ride or two like the hanging vertical drop it would get 5 stars from me
Dan Gorlitsky | Jul 18, 2018
I had a great time, interesting scary and funny at the same time. Takes about 80 minutes. Buy tickets online for lower prices. I think it is a must do attraction in Amsterdam * i don't think it is suitable for young children below the age of 10
Flynn Bastin | Jul 19, 2018
Awesome experience! Highly recommended! The actors really put effort into this compared to other dungeon experiences I've been to. There is a group discount online as well but you could ask them (nicely) to apply this for you at the door.

Great fun for all. Just spooky enough, staff that was really good at English and excellent actors. The one in London had more rides, and a bit more bloodied history, but this one is still just as good. Takes roughly 90 min to do, and you get a treat at the end. Recommended for people who like ghosthouses.
