Santo Domingo Church and Monastery is a ruined monastery in Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala. Its history can be traced back to 1538 when the Dominicans arrived in Guatemala. It had two towers with ten bells and the monastery was filled with treasures. The monastery was destroyed in the 1773 Santa Marta earthquake and today part of the ruins have been transformed into a hotel, the Hotel Casa Santo Domingo.
The food was amazing! Service was great. The only issue we had, but I guess it's not up to them, is the fact of the place not being accessible for handicap people. My granma is in a wheelchair and it was kinda difficult for us to navigate her around. Like to take her to the bathroom and stuff because of the stair. But other than that, everything was just beautiful and food was delicious!!! 💖
A beautifully restored colonial space turned hotel-museum, that you can walk for hours in without visiting the whole place. Would love to stay here when I visit next. During our visit, we took it all in and also paid for the visit to the museum's it hosts. Definitely a must-see in Antigua!
Gorgeous grounds, ruins, restaurants and museums all in one place. You can easily spend a day wandering around experiencing art, history and Maya culture and losing yourself in one of seven museums. The restaurant holds Guatemala's top chef's so stay for some of the best food in Central America or grab friends for a famous Sunday brunch.
The best of the best in Antigua. This is a magical place in the magical city. Very nice place with lot of history, great service and very good meal and beverages.
The place to visit and dine while in Antigua. The former convent has been restored from its destruction by an earthquake. The artifacts reclaimed are amazing. We visited at night and there was a wedding occurring under the stars. The hundreds of candles made for a special setting. You can spend hours exploring the property. After exploring, dine in the world class restaurant and experience some of the best food I've ever eaten in a very special venue.
Very fancy and special hotel. Good service. very good atmosphere, in the room and in all around. 10 minutes walking from the central square.
