La Merced Church is a baroque church in Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala.
Nice looking church! The semana Santa procession starts here. So it gets super duper crowded with vendors, tourists, locals, tv crews during that week. Great food deals. We got tamales for Q5. And some fancy no-sting honey.
It's a beautiful church right being the Catalina arch and definitely worth the visit. Like the exterior, the inside of the church is also beautiful.
This is one of those must see places at Antigua, even if you're not a Catholic. There are food vendors outside in the church's park, great place to taste Guatemalan typical cuisine. These vendors are mostly seasonal, and mostly operate in the afternoon and night so don't get disappointed if you don't find them.
Very beautiful church, inside and out. You cannot help by being moved once inside. Architecturally beautiful as well. A must see.
Beautiful church at both day and night.
This is not just an archtectually magnificent church building that has been restored, it is an active, functioning church central to the old city of Antigua. If you never see it, you will hear it. It's bell ring out through the day announcing every parochial thing. Vendors set up booths in the park grounds by it. They also let you tour part of the Monastery that was largely destroyed in an earthquake.
