The Frankish Tower was a medieval tower built on the Acropolis of Athens by the Franks as part of the palace of the Dukes of Athens. It was demolished by the Greek authorities in 1874, on the initiative and with funding from Heinrich Schliemann.

Great views of athens. Recommend lining up 30m before gates open! We got there at 7:30a and were one of the first up. This also meant great pictures. Also recommend getting the €30 pack which gives you access to all the main sites in Athens. That way you also don't have to line up for tickets. Great time saver.
What can you say... So much history. It is a little hot (May 31), but you can get cold bottled water just after entering for ,50 € Try to go when there aren't 3 cruise ships in Port. The views of Athens are good. The walk up is comfortable (including for heavy people like me). The museum is a must to understand what you're seeing or take a 1/2 tour which include the museum and Acropolis. We used G.O. Tours and they were very good.
I had a great time at the Acropolis of Athens. This place is really cool. You should really visit the Acropolis of Athens and have fun. I really liked it here and it was a really beautiful place. I suggest you come here even though I've never been it seems really cool. This place is probably fine but I don't know you should go there and tell me what you think of it. Athens seems like a cool place so you should go here. This would be
Very busy after 8am. Need good walking foot ware and plenty of water a good sun hat & plenty of sun cream. Fantastic views not only of historical site but if Athens as well. Plenty of toilets and easy access via the bus tours which run around every 15 minutes and only cost around £8 for two days with commentary in 12 languages. Approx £20 for an adult ticket. Well worth the money
This is the most historic spot in the ancient works. It is a representative of man's ingenuity and his creativity. The history behind this air is the history of the city. The city, so named after the goddess Athena, has her temple on the highest point in the city. The Acropolis was also the last line of defense the people had when the city was under attack. It was the highest Hill on the center of the city and can thus be seen from every point in the city. The are many places throughout the city that you can see the Acropolis from. It is going to be a great view from wherever you see it, but it feels like the city was literally designed around it. From the temple of the Olympian Zeus to the highest rooftop bar, you can see the Acropolis. When I say that it is one of the pinnacles of achievement of the human race, it really is. You can see the dedication and the commitment the people had to their city and their patron goddess. I highly recommend that you go visit this site if you are in the city. It is a life experience that many cannot relate too
A very beautiful and historically rich site. The city views from the top are breathtaking. I loved it, and I highly recommend visiting. Note that the climb up is long and very steep so younger children and elderly people make find it difficult. Wear comfortable shoes with a grip.
The beautiful acropolis is the heart of Athens and it's the must visit attraction in the city. The location is easily accessible by public routes and the entry is ticketed. However the tickets are freely distributed at the ticket office (not sure whether this is the case for all times of the day as we visited at 5.30pm). There after it's all the way up to the summit to enjoy the views of the acropolis and the city.
Amazing and surreal being there. While the pillars themselves were clearly the highlight, I almost preferred the incredible view from above, with Greek flag flying proudly. Could spend hours just hanging out up there! It's an easy path up but bring water with you.
The amount of money they take each day from so many people that visit this place would be better if used to clean the area, cut the grass and maintain it in general. It's sad to see it so un-maintained with half meter grass and garbage everywhere. Acropolis definitely deserves better than that.
The trek up is amazing and so is the view! The moat beautiful historic buildings in ever seen... the best part??the view from the plaka at night when all the lights r on... But it closes at 5 during the off season (Nov-March) and is open till 8 in summer.
Probably the most famous monument of Athens or even Greece! They have done a pretty good job maintaining it, but all year round they have the braces around it to keep it secure I believe. Going up there you can catch a glimpse of basically all of Athens on a very clear day. Most of the time I believe the cost is between 10-20 euros to go and tour the sites, it is only just Acropolis on the tour. Many great pictures I can guarantee. Just know they don't let you take food/drinks inside or smoke.
No words.. Who am I to say something?? Just try to avoid midday when there in summer months or take a hat and use suncream! I would suggest to first visit the monument and then go to the museum. The last floor of the museum will try to replicate what you have just experienced. Therefore, is better to do both the same day.
Without a doubt this is a must see (you can't go to Athens and not come here) but we were not overwhelmed. The history is amazing but you are quite restricted and there are a lot of renovations under way making a lot of pictures less than ideal and scenery a lot less pleasing our authentic. Plus there is nothing for young kids to do here nor are there any accommodations for the elderly. The Acropolis Museum is a far better choice in the eyes of my family.
Truly amazing!!!! If you really want to see this place I suggest getting there when it opens. For the first half an hour there we're maybe a dozen of tourist. It's the best way to see the site and appreciate its beauty with the calmness. After an hour it's crazy packed, so much people!!!! Still beautiful, but too busy and chaotic to really take it in. Ended up people watching.
A truly breathtaking site, it is hard to describe in words the reverence one has in its presence. The Acropolis really is a world wonder, to think that the very origins of modern society and democracy and republics really started here was so humbling. The views are equally awe inspiring, please spend a day exploring the grounds, you will not regret it.
The most popular and famous tourist attraction of the city of Athens, the ancient Acropolis. It can be visible from many areas around the city, as it is located at the top of a central hill. Many groups are visiting daily the historical place, the tours are interesting and educational, absolutely worth visiting.
The greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess Athena, dominates the centre of the modern city from the rocky crag known as the Acropolis. The most celebrated myths of ancient Athens, its greatest religious festivals, earliest cults and several decisive events in the city's history are all connected to this sacred precinct. The monuments of the Acropolis stand in harmony with their natural setting. These unique masterpieces of ancient architecture combine different orders and styles of Classical art in a most innovative manner and have influenced art and culture for many centuries. The Acropolis of the fifth century BC is the most accurate reflection of the splendour, power and wealth of Athens at its greatest peak, the golden age of Perikles.
