Grant Park refers to the oldest city park in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, as well as the Victorian neighborhood surrounding it.
Grant Park is a 131-acre green space and recreational area and is the fourth-largest park in the city, behind Chastain Park, Freedom Park and Piedmont Park. Zoo Atlanta, established in 1889 and originally known as the Grant Park Zoo, is located in the park and attracts more than 1 million visitors annually.
We love this zoo! It has been about 3 years since our last visit until we went yesterday. They have made some new additions since our last trip and are continuing to make more coming in 2019!. Every staff member we encountered was very helpful and friendly. Going on a Monday it was not crowded at all. We are a family of 4 with 2 kids ages 4 and 5. They loved the train and carousel and play areas in addition to the animals. We live over 2 hours away, we can't wait to go back once the new African safari is complete! We missed seeing the giraffes. Here are some of the wonderful pictures I got on my camera during our trip.

While it's got a relatively small footprint, it's one of the best zoos I've been to. A great flow with a great selection of animals to see. The habitats are all well designed and the addition of the new reptile house adds a ton to the overall experience. Definitely worth a visit and many repeat visits.

This zoo is one of the best in the country. They have a unique outdoors experience where the animals aren't kept behind glass or cages. The pandas were awesome and it's one of the few zoos that have pandas. Lions were spectacular. The only negatives I can think of are the elephant is lonely and the tiger is alone. Also no giraffes, otherwise a great overall experience.

We love the Atlanta Zoo! We have been members since before our daughter was born, and it has always been a great weekend spot for us. Now we love watching her interact with the animals through the glass (she loves watching the pandas play!) and helping her explore the playground areas. The staff is great, there are always educational talks to enjoy, and it is surprisingly clean for such a heavily trafficked park. Parking is always a challenge, but that’s Atlanta for you. Overall, it’s a great zoo, and we learn something new every visit!

Not a large zoo like San Diego’s- but nice layout and the zoo keepers are very engaged with zoo guests. Loved the feeding of the giraffes for $3 ! Ingenious way to raise zoo funds as the giraffes need to be fed anyway! Reptile house is very cool! And amazing unique animals such as a red panda! - the traditional panda exhibition was up close and personal . The zoo staff shed some very interesting facts that pandas like to be alone - only get together to mate. Then the offspring leave after about 2 years with mom . Also learned it’s common for the female to have twins. But in the wild she can only take care of one - so one twin usually doesn’t survive. In captivity the outcome is obvious better. Great zoo!

This is our first experience here. We went to the zoo with our 1 year old kid and grandparents . My kid loved and kept seeing all the animals in interesting ways. From the entrance of the zoo to all the different exhibits it was really good. There are differ places where u can take some rest, places to eat and also places to get some food from inside. All the animal exhibits are good and it’s a very special treat for all the kids who steps inside The entrance of the zoo is pretty much close to Disney animal kingdom. One other main thing is the zoo is connected to another big park and even if u are done with the zoo u have a decent big park to walk around or to have picnic Regards to the parking it is free part of zoo Atlanta. Also it has got enough spaces for all the visitors. In my opinion it is best to visit when the zoo opens up. The time we visited was during March and it was too a slow start. There was not much a crowd and later after 11 am people started pouring in. Overall very satisfied with the visit.

1) Awesome parking access 2) Delicious food 3) Plenty of places to sit down and hang out while you're walking through. Plenty of room to spread out, so even when there's a huge number of people there it still feels spacious No reason not to go here on a weekend. Wonderful experience.

Great zoo with something for all ages! We took our son when he was about 11 months old and he had a blast. Lots of different animals to see, different behind the scenes experiences if you're interested for an extra cost (we'll probably go back and try these when he's a little older). Only downside, we happened to go on the day when it was free/cheaper (not sure what the deal was) for locals so it was extremely crowded. BUT, even crowded we had a great time and it was worth the trip. So next time I would just plan to go on a different day.

I really need to take more pictures next time but my family and I love going to the Atlanta Zoo! We are zoo pass holders so we come whenever we feel like it. Parking isn’t the best if you come later in the day. You normally have to go park a couple blocks away but it isn’t horrible. The park is always clean. Food is okay. My kids especially love the playground, zip line, and goat/sheep petting area. New pics will be posted soon!

Good day to get outdoors, and to the Zoo. Parking was full, but found a parking spot. Walked around, usual route since we've been there seversl times. Many families were there having a good time. Can hardly wait till the 2019 Savannah Zoo changes are complete. Enjoyed the reptile house, birds, gorillas, pandas, and so much more. Rode the train. It has a recorded message instead of a live voice leading you through. Adults and children will love the new overhead area to walk and swing across, similar to Stone Mountain. Had ice cream. Membership discount helps, along with other costs and numerous visits. Lot to see and do, so take your time because it's still a work in progress in many areas. Pace yourself for the animal feedings and shows as well. If you don't visit a lot get a map for times.

This is a nice zoo, and well maintained. The animals appear happy, healthy, and well cared for. I've brought out-of-town family and in-town friends to this zoo and we always have a great time. There are several animals to see. If you spend the day there, you can see everything in one visit. My toddler likes taking the train ($3) and riding the carousel ($3). The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the parking isn't always open. On busier days (weekends/holidays/school breaks) their lot gets full and you have to find street parking. Note: you can get a free pass for 4 people from Atlanta area libraries, good Monday-Friday.
beka rauenMay 1, 2018
We visited when it was under construction but it was still a great experience. Georgia libraries have a free family pass if you go Monday-Friday so if you live here take advantage of a free experience. Of course you will want to go back again and pay, it is worth it! There is also free parking and military (active and retired) are always free. We have a one and three year old so their favorite experience was the train ride and cool kiddie bathrooms in the kiddie area. They did want to ride the carousel and play on the playground too. They did not care much for the petting area, but they did enjoy the elephants and gorillas the most. They have fun personalities and interact with the guests. The staff also were helpful and informative if you go when they have scheduled events. The tree house for primates and birds was also fun and shaded which is great for families on hot days. My kids also loved the kimono dragon and were excited to see a real dragon. Nearby is the mole area that encourages kids to crawl and climb like moles. It is cute and kind of creepy, which is fun for kids.

We enjoyed the Atlanta Zoo, parking for us was free in the lot we parked in, smaller zoo but very clean and nice exhibits for all of the animals. All habitats seemed spacious. Would liked to have seen some shows but they are very spread out throughout the day. Also wish signing was as little more direct, we had to walk around and look for a few things that with a little more signage we would have found on the same path without back tracking. Overall nice zoo, took us about 5 hours to cover everything and we took lots of pics and had lunch, shopped in a couple different shops. Allow at least 4 hrs.
Danielle HallJun 4, 2018
Really hot on the day we went, but we had a great time. We had enough people to get the group price, including 8 kids from 3-12, and they all had a wonderful time. Definitely bring an extra change of clothes for kiddos because there is a free water area by the carousel and train. Bring some snacks and water if you don't want to spend a lot on food. Definitely stay hydrated. Overall great time.
Sarah CrawfordJun 4, 2018
Nice zoo with plenty to see. New African environment is opening soon. That will make the number and diversity of animals even better. Setup is easy to follow. Nice gift store. Can get tickets ahead to avoid the line. Easy to do a half day visit and see it all. Kid friendly play areas.

I went to the zoo on Saturday of May and it was not so crowded. Although, we couldn't find parking in designated parking lot. But it was easy to find parking on road side (almost 2000 feet from Zoo). We were group of 10 and we got Group Discount and Online discount as well, which cost of 19$ per person, Which is worth for a 3-4 hours activity. I have been to many zoo and indeed this is one of the beautiful zoo. Very well managed and good variety of animals and birds. My wife has seen Panda very first time in her life and obviously it was worth. I liked the Bird shelter a lot. You will find food stalls, restrooms and water fountains easily. Food stalls are little costly. Must go place in Atlanta if you love nature and looking for a 3-4 hour fun filled activity. :)

I had a delightful time at the Atlanta Zoo. All the exhibits had informative and educational information. There's a wide selection of animals to see. From sun bears to pandas to their own petting zoo. The only negative thing I would say would be that some animals looked hot with not much shade to protect them from the sun and heat. There's a train, carousel, and fun play areas for kids and even the adults to enjoy. The gift shops were fairly priced with a lot available to choose from and unique souvenirs.

I appreciated the restaurant (The Wild Planet Cafe)with their efficiency. Got food quickly and was able to continue with my tour in a timely manner. Enjoyed the southwest salad with chicken and the cheeseburger and fries weren't bad at all.

I'm rating this 5 stars based on truly enjoying my time at the zoo. I will say it isn't the greatest or biggest zoo I've ever been to but it was very well kept and had a good variety of Animals. While it seems like the pandas were the star here I enjoy many of lesser known animals housed here, all of which offered nice views. The zoo is built into a park so there was plenty of shade so even in July I never truly felt hot. Certainly worth a visit if you're in town and I hope to come back and try one of the many animal encounters they offer.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the parking isn't always open. On busier days (weekends/holidays/school breaks) their lot gets full and you have to find street parking. Note: you can get a free pass for 4 people from Atlanta area libraries, good Monday-Friday.

Had a great time. Lots of animals. (Turtle Overload) Lots of shaded areas throughout the zoo. Lots of restrooms very clean and clearly marked throughout.

We LOVE Zoo Atlanta! The new alpacas are a new favorite for our family and yesterday we got to watch the bird show that was terrific! These people truly love and care for the animals so well! If you're local take advantage of being close to one of the best zoos in the US! We would HIGHLY recommend the membership to anyone and the adventure plan (passports) for families!
