The Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sisi. The mansion is currently the residence of their great-grandson Archduke Markus Emanuel Salvator.
Originally the palace was a Biedermeier villa belonging to a Viennese notary named Josef August Eltz. In 1850 it was purchased by Dr Eduard Mastalier. After Franz Joseph's engagement to Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria in 1853, Franz Joseph's mother, Princess Sophie of Bavaria, purchased the villa as a wedding present for the couple.
Beautiful villa of Sissi. The tour was cool. It was in German but they had printed handouts in other languages covering the talking points.

Very nice villa with a lot interesting furniture from the past. It is not very big so good to visit with children. We loved the coffee and cookies in the small coffee shop after the visit.

This is an absolutely must see when you go to Bad Ischl. The garden is gorgeous, the museum is amazing. You get a nice tour guide who explains you everything about the history of Sissi, her Family and life. Super interesting!

Most palaces have had their furniture and history largely stripped from them but this is very intimate. The family personality and history is very present. Not huge but big enough.
