The Golden Buddha, officially titled Phra Phuttha Maha Suwanna Patimakon (Thai: พระพุทธมหาสุวรรณปฏิมากร; Sanskrit: Buddhamahāsuvarṇapaṭimākara), commonly known in Thai as Phra Sukhothai Traimit (Thai: พระสุโขทัยไตรมิตร), is a gold Maravijaya Attitude seated Buddharupa statue, with a weight of 5.5 tonnes (5,500 kilograms). It is located in the temple of Wat Traimit, Bangkok, Thailand. At one point in its history the statue was covered with a layer of stucco and coloured glass to conceal its true value, and it remained in this condition for almost 200 years, ending up as what was then a pagoda of minor significance. During relocation of the statue in 1955, the plaster was chipped off and the gold revealed.
The origins of this statue are uncertain. It is made in the Sukhothai Dynasty style of the 13th-14th centuries, though it could have been made after that time. The head of the statue is egg-shaped, which indicates its origin in the Sukothai period. Given that Sukothai art had Indian influences and metal figures of the Buddha made in India used to be taken to various countries for installation, this suggests the Golden Buddha statue may have been cast in parts in India.
We visited Wat Traimit during Chinese New Year in 2016 and 2018. The temple is beautiful during the and wonderful at night. The views at the top are excellent. The Golden Buddha is wonderful. The ceilings are nice.

Majestic 2nd visit to the Temple of the Golden Buddha. 5.5 tons of solid gold. We hired a guide and he provided the story behind the Temple and the Golden Buddha. I highly recommend a visit during a visit to Bangkok.

It is said that Wat Traimit houses the world's largest massive gold seated Buddha measuring nearly five metres in height and weighing five and a half tons. Worth a visit but since it is quite a small place I believe half an hour is enough. This place is near China town and you may have a walk around. There is an exhibition about china town in the second and third floor and if you want to have a look you need buy additional ticket for 100BT. Otherwise the ticket to the top is 40BT. Toilet is free here and also there is lift to the top floor.

Beautiful temple where the golden Buddha lies. It says that the statue was the real person inside it, correct me if I'm wrong. The temple is always crowded so we have to be patient for entering it and leave the shoes outside. Visitors who are not come for praying will walk on the path that intended to by the authority so people who are praying are secure. There also big bell outside the temple A place of worth visit and good for photography too.

Beautiful architecture and design of the temple. Also the statue is said to be made of gold which was only discovered about 60 years or so back and had been covered in stucco or plaster for about 200 years. It was first found lying in the beach is what I was told by the local guide after which it was picked up and placed in a small temple. They discovered that it was good only when they were shifting it for renovations of the same temple. The local tourist shops have reasonable pricing and have some really beautiful things to pick and choose from and of course the shop keepers are extremely polite, so that's a plus as well. It's located almost in the busy part of the city. And I recommend this place to see the beauty and the view from the top of the temple.

Nice temple at the very beginning of the Chinatown. Golden Buddha inside! Entrance fee is 50 baht. *On special days, there is no entrance fee. They even set up tables, providing everyone with free food. **Pictures taken at the Chinese New Years. You won’t find dragons or special decorations on regular days.

Certainly worth a visit for tourists wanting to experience a thai temple. Beautiful in the way it has been built and crafted. Lovely architecture. It has a golden statue inside too. It was very crowded when we were there though and they did charge to get inside

I had one of the best experiences in their souvenir shop. All items are affordable and blessed by the monks for good fortune. If you can walk the stairs (many) take the elevator on the left corner. When you arrive, go straight to the ticket booth, at the right of the Wat.
