Good museum in the center of Bangkok. Unfortunately with a double price policy, but proof of residence will give you the Thai price

So everyone goes straight to Jim Thompson house but a couple more stops north on the Sukhumvit line there's this amazing palace that I think is a must-visit if you have the time. It's made of different traditional Thai teak buildings and it holds the art and other collections of a late royal couple. When you go in you get assigned a guide and you're given a small bamboo fan as a gift. The guide will take you around explaining what you see at each building.

The Suan Pakkad Palace is the first museum in Thailand where the owner, their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Chumbhot of Nagara Svarga, decided to convert their private residence, built in the traditional Thai style opened in 1952. There are groups of 4 traditional Thai houses with the covered hallway between them. Houses 5 to 8 are located along the west side of the property. The Lacquer Pavilion stands in the main garden to the south of the compound. The Ban-Chiang Museum [Thai Heritage] and Marsi Gallery are in the Chumbhot-Pantip Centre of Arts. Absolutely worth a visit when you are in Bangkok.

Rambling. No photos inside. Pond with huge catfish. Early artefacts (metal, glass & pottery) amazing. Good collection of shells and interesting mineral samples (very dusty). Many attendents to keep you in line. Nice royal barge. Garden plants helpfully labelled. Allow a few hours to take it all in.

really interesting place as stated below that everyone goes to the Jim Thompson house, having been to both, I found this place far more interesting.
