The Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor (Catalan pronunciation: [səˈɣɾat ˈkɔɾ]; English: Expiatory Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Spanish: Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús) is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located on the summit of Mount Tibidabo in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The building is the work of the Spanish architect Enric Sagnier and was completed by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal. The construction of the church, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, lasted from 1902 to 1961.
The idea of building a Catholic church on the summit of the Tibidabo emerged in the late 19th century amidst rumors about the construction of a Protestant church and a hotel-casino at that location. This motivated a "Board of Catholic Knights" to acquire the ownership of the field and give it to Saint John Bosco in 1886, when he was visiting Barcelona at the invitation of Dorotea de Chopitea, a great patron and promoter of the project. From this arose the idea of a building dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a dedication very popular at that time thanks to the impetus given by Pope Leo XIII, and following in line with the church built in Rome by Bosco himself (Sacro Cuore di Gesù a Castro Pretorio) and the famous Sacré-Cœur in Paris.
One of my favourite spot of the city- it is the highest point of barcelona and provides the best view. The church itself is breathtaking, amazing details, ornaments and colour. The lift to the top of the church costs €3.5 and I really recommend it! It is the best place to spend a day in on a bright sunny day- you will snap some of the best photos of your trip to barcelona here!

Amazing view from the top of the Temple. It is a nice place to visit if you are going to Barcelona. The place is accessible with public transport and inside 1st zone. Ticket for the temple is really good and you got s great value for that money. Just choose a nice weather to go there.

Very beautiful church built on top of the hill. It actually consists of two churches - the lower and upper one. You can take elevator and then climb the tower to get a breath taking view over Barcelona and surroundings.

A bit outside of the city center but worth the trip. I went on a Tuesday morning and I was the only one there. the view from the top is beautiful and terrifying (If you are like me and afraid of heights). There is no better place to get a beautiful view of Barcelona. The inside is gorgeous as well.

An amazing monument to visit at the summit of Mount Tibidabo. The view of the city from the edifice is just splendid and I could have spend hours and hours to contemplate it. It is accessible by public transport as it is a hard and long walk from the city. I would highly recommend to visit if you are in Barcelona.

Beautiful place to visit and see an important piece of history along side the new updated architectural giant. A very cute little structure with a lot of history is just to the right of the new main upper structure that shows you where it all began. It also has a little story for you to read with a brief history of the structure.

Great place to take beautiful pictures of Barcelona! You can see all the city!! If you pay 3.5€, you can take the elevator that takes you higher than the stairs. From that place there are even more stairs that reach the level of the image of Christ. This is a spectacular view of the city that you can not miss.

It’s interesting, one church build over another one. The best sightseeing place in Bcn. Must see, even if you think it’s far away. Amazing view, amazing selfy, amazing pictures. You may bring some sandwiches or fruits with you to have it here with view on all city and infinity sea. There is also ice cream point and restaurant, but restaurant is with view on bus stop and on church. People come here to see sunset. Sun down to hillsides, but reflecting to sea. Still should be beautiful. Pretty easy to get by usual way: city transport from Plaza Catalunya 1hr. S5+funicular+bus. It takes 1 (or 2) tickets from your T10 metro card.

A beautifull church with mosaics which are great works. At the top of the church you will see the Jesus statue and in fact the statue is the same as you can find in Rio Christ the redeemer. You can go to the top of the church with an elevator which will cost you 4 euros.

Don't stay outside, enter and enjoy the beauty of this Basilica in the cool area of Born. It's easy to forget while shopping and having tapas that you can enter and just sit for 5 minutes enjoying the beauty and calm feeling inside this treasure.

Was amazed how little people actually get in the cathedral and even fewer reach the top of it, using the elevator. The view from above is amazing! It's simply unforgivable if you reach Tibidabo and skip the visit of the cathedral's top.
