Did not stay at the hotel, but had many friends stay. Friends found the hotel very comfortable, but several had issues with their bookings (wrong day booked, wrong beds in room, etc) - but this may have been the fault of the non-staff organiser. I attended a wedding ceremony and reception. The setting was amazing, but when the reception went overtime, staff very rudely increased music volume to the point it was hard to hear wedding speeches, seemingly in an attempt to encourage us to leave.
Nice hotel. Great service. Great building. Good relaxing location. However no private beach. And food is not very good. And actually service in the restaurant needs to be a lot better!!! But it’s a beautiful hotel and probably the best one in Penang.
We were excited to return 24 years after our honeymoon, and this most wonderful of hotels has not disappointed at all. Wonderful grounds, comfortable rooms and great facilities. The upgrade to the Rasa Wing is well worth it for the included extras and the peaceful pool, although be aware it is for 16+ only, so if you have younger kids you would be missing out. The restaurants are pricey as you would expect in a 5 star resort, but there are so many options to eat locally this is not an issue. Pro Tip: there’s a laundry opposite the hotel that will take your clothes for RM5/kg and you can collect the same day. Approx. 20% of the cost of using the in-house laundry service.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent and diverse breakfast choices. The location is great, offering a great view from almost every room in the hotel.
It has been a while since I last stayed here but it was by far the best hotel I have stayed at on Batu Feringgi Beach. Always nice to be directly on the beach when you are staying in a beach resort. I also remember taking part in a very good hike to the waterfalls from here.
The hotel is one of the best we have stayed at. It felt exclusive and the facilities matched this most of the time. The room were the biggest and the best layed out I have ever stayed in and the food/breakfast was great.Everyone in the hotel was also very helpful and always deal with a smile. I would like to thank you all on the behalf of my family for your kindness and generosity.
We stayed at this hotel following a recommendation and good reviews of this supposed 5 star hotel. However when we arrived we found the rooms rather dated and tired. For example the safe in the room getting having errors (opening / locking) and had to be reset by the hotel handyman. I can not fault the staff. They were all incredibly helpful and friendly, particularly the managers on the main reception who helped getting our lost luggage back from Malaysian Airlines. The main breakfasting area was average and nothing special. Also, if you sit outside and leave your food unattended the birds will probably take it. While there was a lot of choice, we found the food rather bland. The chefs are more than happy to rustle something up for you, whether be omelettes, Indian or oriental. We also found this area quite noisy as it was rather busy. To avoid eating in this area I would suggest upgrading to the Rasa wing, which gives you access to another restaurant which is more exclusive and quieter. Another upgrade which is relatively inexpensive provides you with access to afternoon tea and a happy hour (drinks). This is a worthwhile upgrade. The beach 🏖 is pretty narrow with occasional jellyfish so it’s not really any good for swimming and walking in. Having said that there are some boats and jet skis for water sports. The main pool is not heavily used so you normally get a sun lounger to relax on. The temperature of the water was spot on. While it can be hot here, it can also be rather humid. So some folk may struggle here. You can also expect thunderstorms and periods of heavy rainfall due to the humidity. Apart from the other hotels nearby there are not that many decent places to go out at night. I would suggest going to Georgetown nearby for entertainment at night. The gym in the hotel is well equipped, however, some of the machines are rather dated and not properly greased. The dumbbells are also rather dated, that aside, there is plenty of stuff here to keep you occupied. The folk who stay in this hotel tend to be around 40-70 old, so if you are looking for an alternative with younger guests maybe look at the Solid Rock hotel nearby if you are going to stay in Penang.
Had a wonderful 3 nights stay at the resort. Staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities and rooms are well-maintained. The beach is not great, they should also refresh the buffet selection from day to day. Still we were not bored. Recommended.
Stayed for 5 nights in a Rasa wing room. Beautiful grounds with a nice beach by Penang standards. Excellent main pool for kids and breakfast buffet had an excellent range. Rasa wing free canapés and drinks in the evening after an afternoon swim was very luxurious. Plenty of food options down the road.
Nice place. We were in the "Rasa wing". Quiet and well appointed. Pool is nice. Staff is helpful and friendly. Great place for a romantic few days
Astonishing greenery with magnificent 200 years old trees, spacious rooms with outdoor baths and serene pool area at the club zone, but the F&B offering lacks flair. Breakfast buffet fruit selection and quality is deplorable, as much as the in room welcome fruit platter. It is time to say no to commercially grown, tastless, imported produce from overseas and embrace the riches of the local markets! Where did the five star hotels get the idea that Green Apples, table grapes (from Australia?), and totally unripe Rock Melons are emblematic to tropical bounty of Asia?! Even the F&B manager admitted that none of the fruit are local... How about giving your Guests a chance to discover something new, something with a sense of place dear Shangri La? How about replacing an apple that has been sitting in a chiller for at least a month with a cacao pod on the coffee table? Little to eat but at least exciting to look at when entering the room and something your Guests would lovingly steal as a memorable token of their stay! Not to mention that none of the outlets serves fresh young coconuts, as perfect hydration, that actually grows on the beach and most likely ends up in the bin as garden waste. Newly repainted (?) balcony balustrade smells terribly in the heat of the midday sun making it impossible to enjoy the outdoor seating. Big thumbs up for locally bottled in glass complimentary water, next step to take care of the plastic straws and single use, individually packed bath amenities... It is also the first hotel in 7 years of travels across South East Asia with so many staff present and so few smiles. We were spared one at check out and one more from the security guard at front entrance. Yes we counted...
Nice resort, but we had some small customer service issues during our stay (hence only four stars). The facilities are top notch and what you'd expect, with a fabulous pool and convenient beach access. Breakfast was the only meal we had at the resort and it was very well curated, with options for all appetites. Beds were comfortable and the room itself was larger than we expected.
The hotel is beautiful, the overall service is very good - it's all let down by it's kitchen. The food is basic and has little taste, even breakfast is well below par. The setting by the beach is wonderful but dont turn around. There is a handful of old stores selling foot rubs and well not a lot else. There is of course a mosque calling its followers to pray on a regular basis which if that's your faith great but if it's not........ I guess given the cost of the resort you could stay in the grounds but then you have to put up with food.
