My son enjoys this zoo as it's the only one he knows and he loves elephants. There is a semi decent variety of animals and it is good to see the zoo participants in conservation practices. The play park is a firm favourite as well. That being said, it is a fairly dated zoo and that is pretty apparent from when you first enter. Food is also expensive (though pretty tasty) so I would recommend bringing a packed lunch. This zoo wouldn't be my favourite in the world however it is still worth a trip if you haven't been before. If going be sure to hike all the way to the top first as it's easier than going slowly up the steep hills... either way expect to be tired at the end of your day.
A small Zoo but well run with good exhibits. Concentrating on conservation, breeding programmes and education but offering a good day out for visitors. Friendly staff and healthy looking animals. Worth a days visit. Enjoy!
Very impressed by the Zoo, it is small in comparison to Dublin Zoo but a lovely homely feeling while walking around. All staff were very polite and helpful. There are a lot of hills however this did not hinder our day out. 29/12/17
Well kept zoo with a lot to see and learn. There's great play area for the kids, picnic tables, cafe. Perfect place for day out.
kids just love the zoo unfortunately it's in need of some work but regardless we go
Ideal day out. Family well entertained in all aspects and perfect location to tire tiny feet. As a disabled person, catered for with all facilities around the zoo. Barring British weather, it was a very enjoyable time. 🦁🦍🐢🦅🐍🦐🐯🐵🐒🐨🐘
The zoo is nice and local to Belfast which is good. It is on a hill so bring your walking boots. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. The restaurants are way over priced. 3 sausage rolls, no frills just sausage rolls, and a plain hot dog, tea and coffee £23. And the customer service was exceptionally poor. I like the zoo, and wish it does well in the future however as a returning customer it seems I've been too late to realise the benefits of a picnic.
OK, so it was a miserable, wet, cold day when we arrived with a baby and toddler, so it was not going to be a picnic day out. Positives were very friendly staff all round the zoo who stopped to explain what was happening to the various animals. Kids enjoyed seeing a wide variety of animals close up despite the winter weather. 3 year old walked most of the way, though the hillside sight is steepish for toddlers at times. Parking is free. Entry costs are not too bad for a whole day's outing.
Not worth the money you pay. The place is run down and needs improvement and it doesn't have a good lay out. The kids were very disappointed as a lot of animals were still inside and they look very sad. The play area was what the kids enjoyed the most. Staff was friendly but we won't go back again.
Great zoo, plenty to see with animals in nice sized and managed enclosures. Only criticism being that is all on a hill so we good shoes and be prepared for a good walk. Friendly staff to boot.
Definitely improved from last visit a year or so ago. Zoo is hilly, pushing buggy around it is not for faint hearted!- but a good day out esp. on nice day. Lots of picnic tables dotted around and great playpark for children
Was great seeing the animals out and having fun and some getting fed. Also getting some history of the Elephants and Bears from their keepers, thanks guys. Keep up the good work
Good Zoo. Built on the side of a mountain so might be difficult for older people to get to the very top. Belfast Zoo is one of the top fee-paying visitor attractions in Northern Ireland, receiving more than 300,000 visitors a year. Located in north Belfast, the zoo's 55-acre (22 ha) site is home to more than 1,200 animals and 140 species. The majority of the animals in Belfast Zoo are in danger in their natural habitat. The zoo carries out important conservation work and takes part in over 90 European and international breeding programmes which help to ensure the survival of many species under threat.
Absolutely amazing so many attractions the park is so incredible for the kids. Amazing day out for reasonable prices. Also nice food hot and cold food. All in all brilliant day for adults and the children. Well done keep it up.
Great little zoo. We'll kept by the staff. Great for a short day out with the kids. And excellent selection of animals considering the overall size of the zoo. Recommend a visit if you are at a loose end.
More of a hike then a zoo. Eating is at the top or bottom of the large hills so choose wise what time you eat. Don't recommend if you have small children all enclosures are over stomach height so you will have to carry them round to see the animals( we went with a double pram and had to get them out for everyone but couldn't keep them out cause of the size of the hills). Food is good price and there are plenty of picnic places.
It was nice and clean. Most animals were out and viable in their enclosure and had a great day! The only thing is the zoo is extremely hilly while walking so something to prepare for.
A beautiful green zoo ever I saw. We had a lovely day with great family pic at Belfast zoo. My kid really enjoyed it. Staff is nice and helpful. Adventure park really well maintained by them. We had good exercise too due to hilltop structure;) All spots are wheelchair accessible so we never had problem with our stroller. 4 star only because though Zoo is smoking free still there are people who smokes inside the zoo which I personally feel not good for kids and zoo animals too.zoo staff do not have any control on it. And another thing is there should be some more sign boards for directions while coming to zoo as well as inside zoo. We had a problem to find the entrance as there was only one small sign board. Otherwise big thumbs up.
We had the best zoo experience ever today... wonderful staff start to finish, from the ticketing desk to the keepers feeding their animals and sharing their knowledge with us. The staff in the eateries in particular were just so incredibly helpful... really went the extra mile.
