we had a fab tour with our guide Terry. He made the tour fun and interesting. we loved the meanings to all the old sayings. I would thoroughly recommend it. well done Terry
Fantastic visit. Plenty of history to the place for a very decent price. Would advise to book online to get a discount, and definately try the grill on site as its worth the price to sit in the cave and prolong the experience. Excellent guide was very informative. Much of the information offered is presumptuous, not really facts, but the original features and stripped back Gaol as a backdrop makes it an entertaining day trip out.
Brendan was our tour guide! The tour had the perfect amount of information! It was given at good intervals allowing the group to talk and take photos. There was no rush to get through the tour. I would highly recommend the tour
We visited and would highly recommend a visit if your on a city tour. The guides were very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had. Need to give yourself a few hours to fully appreciate the experience. The hanging chamber give me the creeps but told it is how it was. You are asked if you don't wish to see.
Excellent historical place. Sad to think it was in use in 1998. The tour was marvelous and very well informed. Lots of guided exploring. The dinner at Cuffs at the end was a neat experience to wrap up the day and reflect.
Fantastic and very informative tour. Some surprises along the way. Would highly recommend and the staff are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. There’s light hearted jokes inserted to relieve some of the more morbid parts to make it okay for any age group.
Fantastic museum with a knowledgable tour guide. Really brings home the experiences that people went through during some dark parts of history in an informative and sensitive way. Suitable for all ages. I would highly recommend that anybody take some time to visit here. I think it’s a useful reminder that some things have definitely changed for the better over time.
Amazing place to visit, the building is architecturally fascinating and preserved very well. The stories of the prisoners are interesting whilst understanding that the troubles were a big part of the prisons recent history. The executioners room really makes you think about the brutality of capital punishment. Our guide Iain was excellent. Really good value for money. And the restaurant there was good too. A must see.
Brilliant and harrowing experience. Brought it home in some ways how difficult life was the community. The no holds barred tour was incredibly interesting, and cold! Dress for it! Well worth it though.
Good guided tour . Unlike other jail museums I have visited this place depicts the life of prisoners quite well. Standing in the execution chamber with names of people hung to death in the same chamber listed on the walls was eerie experience.
Really enjoyed my tour around the prison. The staff are knowledgeable and enjoy taking questions. Photos are also welcome. There are artefacts around the area where you wait for the tour which were fascinating. Its a shame the court room opposite has been neglected and allowed to go derelict as they mention it it would be nice to look round.
This was a very interesting place. I also had a lovely meal in the restaurant located inside. However it was very cold. Our tour guide was lovely and explains everything well. Very open to question, had a lot of knowledge regarding the history
Had a great tour of the jail. Our guide Harry was very good. He was knowledgeable and his anecdotes about the jail and the people who were imprisoned there gave an insight into what life was like for inmates and staff w hile the jail was in use. Had lunch afterwards in Cuffs bar & grill which was also very good. Well worth a visit.
Great experience and very interesting and intriguing building. Tour guide very knowledgeable and broke the ice quickly with the group. Food was excellent afterwards. Will be back again for sure!
Excellent night. Done the Halloween fright night. Very good. Rest of the family were very impressed. Not to scary for the children, they definitely enjoyed it. Planning a return night for the tour of the jail. Also noticed they served food so looking forward to trying that and making a night of it
Nicely, sympathetically renovated gaol. Interesting tour and worth a visit. Parking is atrocious however and would consider getting a bus or taxi. The gaol has diversified from a museum and offers corporate events. The only event I was at ( a middle sized affair ... c. 250 people) was a bit of a disaster with limited food choices and insufficient food, hence a three rating. My conclusion, by all means go on the tour, it's worth it. If it's an event, consider if a couple hours in a freezing venue with insufficient food is going to be okay. The solution is to wrap up warm and eat before you go.
