Beo zoo vrt (Serbian Cyrillic: Бео зоо врт), also known as Vrt dobre nade (The Garden of good hope), is a publicly owned zoo located in Kalemegdan Park, downtown of Belgrade, Serbia. Established on July 12, 1936, it is considered to be one of the oldest public zoos in southeastern Europe. The zoo covers 7 hectares (17 acres) and houses a collection of 210 animal species, with approximately 800 individuals, making it the largest zoological garden in Serbia. With around 400,000 annual visitors it is also recognized as one of the most popular tourist attractions in Belgrade.
Belgrade zoo officially applied for EAZA membership in 2017.
Very unique zoo where you can get up close and personal with the animals. They have all the usual suspects here, but then add white tigers, white lions, and a pair of cheetahs that on occasion seemed to not be in their enclosure. For timing, I would budget 60-90 minutes to take a good lap.

It doesn't stink like it did before, they rearrange the cages from time to time so you have a feeling like you visit a different place the next time you come... All in all, this place is worth visiting.

There is a wide variety of animals. However this is definitely one of the most cruel zoos out there. The animals are kept in extremely confined spaces and they are not well fed. They look, sound, and act extremely distressed and sad. I hope these animals will be able to return to their natural habitats. They are so mistreated and kept in small cell-like cages.

Nice place to visit with enough variety of animals to see. Although the cages were small and dirty especially for the big animals. I believe that they may consider to ameliorate the conditions that the animals have to live.

Good conditions for half animals. But the other half story is heartbreaking. Too many animals keept without pairs they look sad and miserable at the end i left with very bad mood and thoughts about those poor animals had the unluck to treated like criminals.

What a nice and relaxed environment. It's nice to be so close to some if the coolest animals. I had a peacock litterally jump in front of me and spread his feathers and show me both the front and back. It was amazing. It was a place I wanted to be sure to see in Belgrade and I'd have to say it's been my favorite by far!

A great zoo, with beautiful animal habitats. Every day there it's activities with the animals, they feeds them, plays with them and visitors enjoy it. There are rare species of animals. Albino Lion and Albino Tiger and many other interesting animals. It's worth visiting.

Clean place. There is no signs where to turn in to the zoo from the main street. There is no enough room for all the animals...seems they are trapped specially the wildlife. Restaurant is good enough. People that work in the zoo are very friendly and professional.

Love this place, because it reminds me on childhood. But the terrible truth is that the animals are held under the bad conditions. It is sad to see that those conditions have not changed for decades. Belgrade deserves a proper zoo with happy animals!

It is no doubt one of the nicest Zoo's I have been to. They feature some interesting animals like white tigers, and the oldest crocodiles living in captivity. The Zoo is accessible on foot from the city centre but it also has close parking space.

Some unique animals such as white Lions however the zoo is extremely run down. I got the feeling that while the animals were not mistreated, they were not all cared for as they should be. Perhaps being in such a poor Country, there is a great need for us all to donate to the facility and care of the animals.

Belgrade zoo is excellent place for families. It is not very big but still you can see a lot of animals and have some fun. We were at seal's pool about 12pm and kids could feed the seal. There is a plate which said it happens every weekend at that time but it was a week day. I believe it was beacuse it is summer and they have a lot of visitors. An issue that I notice is, there are places of the zoo which are not accessible by wheelchair or pushchair.
