Alexanderplatz (German: [alɛkˈsandɐˌplats] (listen)) (English: Alexander Square) is a large public square and transport hub in the central Mitte district of Berlin. The square is named after the Russian Tsar Alexander I, which also denotes the larger neighbourhood stretching from Mollstraße in the north-east to Spandauer Straße and the Rotes Rathaus in the south-west.
Alexanderplatz is reputedly the most visited area of Berlin, beating Friedrichstrasse and City West. It is a popular starting point for tourists, with many attractions including the Fernsehturm (TV tower), the Nikolai Quarter and the Rotes Rathaus ('Red City Hall') situated nearby. Alexanderplatz is still one of Berlin's major commercial areas, housing various shopping malls, department stores and other large retail locations.
This square is still nice, but if you look around you miss the green. Somehow it is a just a piece of history now what should be changed. I think the gray city is not for people. A good urban landscape planner would do great things with this place. Now it is nice if you are there for the first time, but it would be not too hard to get sick of this amount of gray.

This place is the heart of Berlin; close to most monumental places. There are a number of big shopping centers at Alexanderplatz where one can buy various things ranging from clothing, accessories, make-up, perfumes, phones, household electrical appliances to a whole lot of other things....including nice restaurants....

This is a good place to purchase everything you might need from food to clothing. There are a vast variety of shops and the Alexa shopping mall is packed with great clothing stores. You can get anywhere from Alexanderplatz, most trams and trains will stop here

Alexanderplatz is a area to visit when you are in Berlin. When I was in Alexanderplatz I was surprised to see a Primark and the Tiger shop there. I was impressed indeed! In Berlin most people speak really good English, so you weren't have a problem with getting to an address or an Tourist attraction you want to see. Berlin is a nice place to visit for sure!

Spacious plaza with bubbling tourists crowd flowing between countless food and drink kiosks. Many shopping malls around and Berlin tower above. Beer, hot and cold, wine, tens kinds of sausages, meat-and-cabbage etc. Small stage with music and sitting place in the middle. Highly recommended to walk about in the evening or shopping from the morning to noon.

Most lively place in the heart of Berlin. Always full of people rushing and shopping and meeting tour groups. Very well connected - bus, train, tram, underground as well. You can find everything here- food, fashion, electronics. Must visit the place. Last stop of bus number 100.

Great historical spot for tourists. Be a bit careful with personal stuff cause around here you find also a lot of thief's. Good shopping choices around the Alexanderplatz and nearby restaurants. Definitely really crowded on weekends.

Great place in the middle of Berlin with lots of different stores for shopping, places for eating, and sights to take pictures of. I recommend finding accommodation close to Alexanderplatz, that is the best location to stay. 🙂 (Of course depends on the purpose of your trip, but in case you want many things to be available close by, this is a great place)

Go there but try to beat the tourist season proper. Great well worth it IF you have a clear day as we did. Just the shear madness of people and what they do with power . It's a great reminder. Thanks Germany and Austria for preserving this.

Huge open area with various food stalls, surrounded by shops and malls, conveniently above an equally large transportation hub. Not my kind of scene since i prefer quiet, but should be great for the family if you enjoy bustling marketplaces.

Big open area with various food stalls sometimes, surrounded by shops and big malls, conveniently above an equally large and modern transportation. It should be great for family if you enjoy bustling marketplaces. Enjoy your time in Berlin.

This place is always full of life, carnival and fun fair. You also can access the tum from here, and a direct (walkable path), to the museum island. The station as access to almost all needed locations in Berlin. It's a fun place to be with street performances, street food and also locker rooms to safely secure your heavy baggage (4 euros for the average lockers). It never gets boring out there.

No doubt there are shops where you can get nice items from very good brands but you'll want to be careful as the area is constantly crowded especially during summer. If you have young children then be on the look out. Overall a good area to visit
