The Berlin Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum (German: Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin) is a botanical garden in the German capital city of Berlin, with an area of 43 hectares and around 22,000 different plant species. It was constructed between 1897 and 1910, under the guidance of architect Adolf Engler, in order to present exotic plants returned from German colonies.
The garden is located in the Lichterfelde locality of the borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. When it was founded, a part of it was located in Dahlem, a fact reflected in its name.

We spent almost a whole day at the botanical garden on our visit to Berlin. Me and my partner enjoyed the peaceful walks, the beautiful gardens and we were very lucky that the weather was amazing too. The seasonal trail was lovely, but unfortunately we got slightly off track - the handheld map isn't the clearest. I thought that while it was really enjoyable, there could have been a couple more areas to sit for a while and take it all in. In addition, the leaflet had some information but occasional description boards of what was planted, why and more on the theme of the area incl. the wildlife you might expect to see there would have just made it even more informative. That being said, I highly recommend taking some time out to go visit, especially if the weather is good. No doubt if I was a Berlin resident I'd have a season pass to go regularly walk the trails and enjoy a day peacefully relaxing.

Absolutely gorgeous botanical gardens. The grounds are massive, well groomed with lovely paths and benches to sit and relax everywhere. The views are spectacular especially in spring time. The grounds also have several green houses. Recently they reopened the Victoria Water Lily green house which makes a nice edition to the gardens. The Gardens also have food stalls, coffee shops and beer garden on site and clean facilities.

This is truly one of the great wonders, especially amazing in the spring but worth the trip any day of the year! A dazzling variety of species and really beautiful greenhouses, most of them dating back a century. On top of the aesthetic pleasure and scientific interest of the plants this is a true Oasis of calm in the big city. I am still fascinated that all these plants from all over the world grow so well right here in Berlin.

If you are voting Berlin you have to visit this place. It’s so big it’ll take you half a day to visit the whole thing. The gardens are beautiful and the green house architecture is amazing. Plus for student it’s only 3€ for entrance and access to the museum! It’s a no brainer!

Beautiful spot with large, lush areas to stroll through. We spent the entire afternoon here and still didn't cover everything. Many flowers were blooming when we visited here in early June. Theres a nice little cafe that serve refreshments. I can definitely recommend a visit

Loved it. Great place to walk around and get lost for hours. The gardens on the outside provided so much variety, from European to American, to Asian. The greenhouses were breathtaking. Humongous and spacious with equally as much variety on plant types and ecosystems. A must do if in Berlin for a good bit of time.

This was absolutely an amazing experience! If you are tired of the noise from the city and you like some quiet time, like I do, you should go visit the Botanical Garden Berlin. The green house was beautiful with all the different colours and smells. You can retreat to a quiet bench and just enjoy all the hard work that's been laid down in this park. It was worth every penny! If I lived in Berlin I would come here every day:-) I really loved it.

You certainly have to visit it if you like the nature and like long walks. From the plan it looks not so big, but in fact you could spend there almost all day if you want to explore it all. It is really nice for visitors and for professionals, as well. The garden has huge green outside part with various places. But also inside you could explore huge collection of tropical and equatorial plants. And it’s arranged in a very nice way.

I’m giving these Gardens a five star rating just for the greenhouses alone, anything else is just a bonus. I am not even going to mark it down for the lack of food options, challenges in finding a toilet or the gardeners blocking paths and nice sitting places with irrigation systems. The weather has been dry and the plants needed a drink. But back to the greenhouses, they were amazing, with so many exotic flowering plants.
