The Vulcan statue is the largest cast iron statue in the world, and is the city symbol of Birmingham, Alabama, reflecting its roots in the iron and steel industry. The 56-foot (17Â m) tall statue depicts the Roman god Vulcan, god of the fire and forge, with ironworking equipment. It was created as Birmingham's entry for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904 World's Fair) in St. Louis, Missouri. While it is the world's largest made of iron, it is also among the nation's tallest statues of any kind.
Commissioned by the Commercial Club of Birmingham, Italian-born sculptor Giuseppe Moretti began designing the monumental figure in 1903, using a 6-foot (183Â cm) tall model to study the form. He next sculpted a clay master model in an unfinished church in Passaic, New Jersey, and this was then divided into sections and transported by railroad to the Birmingham Steel and Iron Company for the preparation of casting molds for the iron.

Visited the place and spent couple of hours. The views from the top are nice, can see the city's sky line. We can use the stairs to go up/come down. Next to the Vulcan statue tower, there are 3 to 4 rooms which are used to provide the history of the Iron statue, small replica of the statue, background, Birmingham city, famous people, car racing etc.

Really nice place, one can go up using elevator or stairs. A nice Landscape view of city is visible from top. There is metal ramp at top surrounding the statue. It is very windy up top. Museum has lot of information if you are interested. Which will give you the insight of the mine worker life. You can get yourself a punched coin if you want.

Great place to watch your wife nearly pee her pants. Because two reasons. 1. Heights and you can look straight down threw the platform. And 2. WASP'S so many wasps! She was terrified. 😂😂😂

Great little park on top of the mountain overlooking the city of Birmingham. The park is well kept and has a little museum/gift shop on the property. There is a picnic area as well for lunch and the views from the park are excellent. It costs a little bit to go through the museum or to go up Vulcan but the park is free if you're pinching pennies. A great place for an afternoon excursion!

What can you say bad about Vulcan Park? It's one of the most important sites in Birmingham. The last event I participated in setting up there, was a nighttime wedding. Wild the banqueting space is not spectacular, it's an empty enough palette that you can put your own imprint on it. My favorite bit is the stone patio accessed from the banquet room, with wrought iron tables and a view of the city that's unequaled.

The view of of Birmingham from above is absolutely breathtaking! The place provides a detailed description of how Birmingham was built and the significance of the closed mines along with red soil there. The statue is the largest cast iron monument in the world! It does not appear to be huge until the time you go to the top and view it from there. As there are no sky scrapers near the monument, you can feel a lot of wind! Be careful not to drop your phone from this height!🤣 The pavement in front of the "museum" is portrayed with a map of Birmingham that is completely visible and makes sense when viewed from above. There is a staircase right in the central core of the monument or an elevator right besides it. Using the staircase is "fun" 😂

Love the view here! I went for a walk on the new trail that they have and it was amazing! I’ve gone to the museum on several occasions to take family members from out of town so they can learn a little bit about Birmingham. They all seem to love it as well. We take the elevator ride up to the top to look out of the city and each time it takes my breathe away to see the changes that have been done to the city and the changes that are currently being done. This is a great place to take friends and family that are visiting from out of town.

Great place to have a dynamic view. I want to go back in the evening next time I am in Birmingham. The museum was nice for me to learn more about the history of Birmingham. One of my favorite things there was the map sketched out on the pavement to show you much of the layout of the suburbs of the city. And oh yes there is a big Vulcan moon..😉

The museum was informative and they provided a scavenger hunt to engage the kids. There's a small gift shop with a fun selection of Birmingham books and gifts. The tower and Bham views were excellent. The tower platform is a grate, so be aware if that might bother you. The kids also really enjoyed the big map on the sidewalk.

For $8 you get unlimited access to the tower for the day - we visited in the early afternoon and then came back again after dark. Birmingham is a beautiful city and the tower is a great way to see it, day or night. The grounds are well kept. My only advice is being a jacket, it was very windy up there!

Fun place to visit. Great view of Birmingham. The gift shop also has several good items a Birmingham gift items. The view from the top through the mesh screen you walk on could be scary for small kids and maybe even some Adults. Even if you don't take the stairs up you should give them a try on the way down which should be easy enough for most people.

This was a diversion I found using Atlas Obscura. It's a park at the top of a steep hill with a really cool statue of Vulcan at the center. We ate here at the outdoor picnic tables (they were shaded) and then bought tickets to ride the elevator to the top of the tower. Great views of Birmingham from up there, Cool place, worth a stop if you have time.

Vulcan is one of the most iconic landmarks in Birmingham, and as such, everything there is top notch. The views are great of Vulcan and the entire city. The grounds and facilities are always in pristine condition. The museum covers the rich history of the Birmingham area, particularly the mining industry. This is a poplar spot for weddings, field trips, picnics, first time visitors to Birmingham as well as long time residents. I highly recommend visiting Vulcan park!

Nice place. For starters, the view from the park is amazing. You can see for miles from up there. There is also a small museum that you can walk through and learn about the city's history. You can even ride an elevator up to the top of the Vulcan statute. All in all it is a nice place to spend some time.

The museum is very modern and has nicely designed interpretative exhibits that focus on the interesting manufacturing and civil rights history of Birmingham, as well as the history of the Vulcan statue itself and its refurbishment. There are plenty of hands-on/touchable exhibits for little ones. The price of admission for the museum allows you to ride the elevator or take the stairs (your choice) into the pedestal of the statue, which is 100 feet in the air. The view is really spectacular. It's a cool way to see the old foundries and surrounding landscape. This is a great place to bring out of town guests. There's also trails and a beautiful green space if you just want to hang out in nature. We saw lots of people simply enjoying the weather, reclining on picnic blankets around the base of the Vulcan statue.

This location is the centerpiece of the city, however, it is truly a Hidden Gem. It cost only $5 to produce a wonderful scenic view and amazing environment 4 alone time or a nice simple date night. It's more than just a wonderful view. It has many historic elements and I Museum that educates you along the way. The staff is very helpful and very professional.

We went around 9:00 on a Saturday night. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and my granddaughter loved the light show. The view of Birmingham at night was quite stunning and did I mention we only paid $5 each😊😊

If you haven't been on top of the Vulcan Tower, you really should try it! This is one of the best views of Birmingham. It's a really fun thing to do for just $5. The surrounding trail and museum is also nice and well-maintained.
