The Church of the Covenant is a historic church at 67 Newbury Street in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. A National Historic Landmark, it was built in 1865-1867 by the Central Congregational Church, and is now affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the United Church of Christ. The church was designed by Richard M. Upjohn, and its distinctive interior is largely the work of Tiffany & Co.
Built of Roxbury puddingstone in Gothic Revival style it was one of the first churches to relocate in the new Back Bay and was built largely with funds donated by Benjamin Bates, an industrialist who founded Bates College. Designed by Richard M. Upjohn, the son and partner of Richard Upjohn, who insisted on "a high gothic edifice ... which no ordinary dwelling house would overtop." It has a 240-foot (73 m) high steeple, that overtops the Bunker Hill Monument. Oliver Wendell Holmes said: "We have one steeple in Boston that to my eyes seems absolutely perfect — that of the Central Church on the corner of Newbury and Berkeley Streets." In the 1890s the sanctuary was redecorated by Tiffany Glass and Decorating Co. with stained-glass windows and mosaics and an electric-light chandelier designed by Tiffany's Jacob Adolphus Holzer for the World's Columbian Exhibition, Chicago, 1893.
I been a member here for a long time. Very friendly place for believer and the not sure yet. Normally we worship in our magnificent sanctuary, but today to stay cool we are worshiping in the basement social hall.

A progressive, welcoming and socially engaged community in an historic (national landmark) Tiffany-decorated building. What not to like? Check it out!

パブリックガーデンから近いカベナント教会です。明治維新直前の1867年に竣工した長老派教会。ゴシック様式が美しかったので撮影しました。ちょうど花が美しい時期でした。

When the church is having an event, a woman will ask you not to stand on the entrance stairs, so you move & lean on the edge the hugh flower pot, and brick wall, same woman doesn't tell you not to lean there, sees you there and doesn't object; where you moved to stand is more against the wall and not blocking anyone's path; few days later, you lean back onto the same flower pot edge, and wall, and OMG, this same woman rushes past you to complain to the WLP staff that you are supposedly blocking the entrance to the Church's event'. FYI: first time when asked to move, another family was standing on the Church's entrance for about 15 minutes, with only about 2 feet allowed for people to go into the church, nothing at all said to them to move !!! I wonder what's really up with her "particular selection" as to whom, she wants to move ? Did I, in her mind, represent the homeless and didn't look affluent enough to stand in close proximity of the Church's entrance ? I do have a blue versacart that I use regularly.
