A very impressive spire (over 200m in height!) which is one of the three tall structures you can see over Bruge! It is the home to Mother and Child by Michealangelo, the only piece of his artwork to leave Italy. It is a shame though that you have to pay to go and see this fantastic sculpture, seeing as it is situated in a marvelous church. But the free parts of the church are worth exploring due to the amazing architecture.

The Church of Our Lady dates back to the 13th century. The tower, 115 meters high, remains the tallest building in the city and the second tallest brick tower in the world (the tallest is St. Martin's Church in Landshut, Germany). In the choir space behind the high altar are the tombs of Charles the Bold, the last Valois Duke of Burgundy and his daughter, the demonic Maria. In the large chapel on the southern corridor there is the most famous art treasure of the church - a white marble sculpture of the Virgin Mary with Christ created by Michelangelo around 1504. Probably originally created for the Siena cathedral, it was bought in Italy by two merchants, the brothers Jan and Alexander Mouscron, and in 1514 it was donated to its present day space. The sculpture was recovered twice after the looting by foreign conquerors of France in 1794 and Nazi Germans in 1944.

I would say this place is history well preserved. The ticket to the museum is 4€ a person 26 age and above and below the age it's 3€. It is all worth when you get to witness age old art work in front of you well described and explained. Especially the Madonna of Bruges. Worth a visit. Many restaurants are right outside the place.

It is a beautiful church with the biggest stone brick tower in the entire lowlands. The tower is 120m tall. Free entrance, keep in mind that their are still services going on here. Please do not take pictures with flash. it is advised to be silent and calm here. It is a very typical Flemish church.

We came for (of course) the famous Michelangelo, and as described it is stunning, but because you cannot get close to it at all it is somewhat anticlimactic. Compared to Michelangelo’s works in Florence where you can get so close, it’s quite disappointing. I however know this going in, having read other reviews in TripAdvisor. It’s still wonderful to see. We found a relic in the church that we researched while there and found it to be a piece of Jesus’ cross. It’s not mentioned anywhere in the church but was quite thrilling to see, especially for my wife, who is Catholic. I suspect there are other “treasures “ there as well that we missed.

Great and beautiful holy church in the heart of the city. True gothic roman catholic church with the tallest - approx 120 meters - bell tower of lowland. The windows are amazing. Indide you can find museum with Michelangelo work. Large interior. Sacred to Maria "Notre Dame".

Beautiful church, a 13th Century gothic building with a large, spiralling tower and fantastic statue of Michelangelo, as well as some pretty amazing interiors.
