Caru' cu Bere (aka Carul cu Bere; "the beer wagon") is a bar and restaurant on Stavropoleos Street in the Lipscani district of Bucharest, Romania. The business was originally opened as a brewery in 1879 by Ioan Căbăşan and his nephews, Ion, Gheorghe, and Nicolae Mircea. They were originally citizens of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and from Cața, Transylvania. In 1889, Căbăşan assigned his lease to his eldest nephew, Ion. Ion died later that same year and was replaced in the family firm by the youngest sibling, Víctor.

A top pick for eating in Bucharest. You may have to book at peak times but usually you can get in. Romanian food is what you should try here along with local drinks. They even have a shop should you feel the need to take some home. The decor is what probably makes this place stand out from the rest. Centuries old, high ceilings, spiral stairs and it all looks great. The staff even dress up in traditional costumes although I didn't see too many of them smile so I'm not convinced they enjoy it.
Best place in Bucharest for traditional Romanian food, plenty of options and good quality. Excellent and fast service. Great wine selection, drink Romanian and you'll be happy! House beer is also to be considered. Live music at specific hours in a historic place. Reservation advised, crowded at lunch and dinner. Not cheap for locals, a bargain for international guests
A must go if you want to eat in Bucharest. We arrived without reservation and we were seated immediately. The food was great and it arrived shortly after we ordered. Great atmosphere and music and all the staff is very nice. All in all, great place!
By far the best restaurant in Bucharest! Friendly and polite staff! The food is amazing. You might need to book a table before to go as it is usually very crowded. They have very good Romanian red wine as well. I strongly recommend this place!
I always recommend this restaurant to all foreigners planning to visit Bucharest and they all say it was the best experience. From the old, beautifully restored building, interior design, atmosphere, menus, live traditional dances, to the delicious food, this place never fails to become quickly the highlight of every Bucharest's explorer. Locals as well have great appreciation for this restaurant. Make sure you have a booking, otherwise you could be in for a long wait to be seated, but you'll have the option to wait at the bar, enjoying a drink. The wait can be even longer to receive your order, but with good company this aspect can be easily overlooked.
