I do like the castle district but at the moment there are a lot of building works going on, I would say I visited in December (after Christmas) and I would imagine they are preparing it for the height of summer! I have been in the summer and enjoyed walking around the grounds and going into the various museums. The museums and other attractions normally charge you an entrance fee but you can walk around the grounds for free. There are also a lot of souvenirs for sale that can be bought down on the main streets for less. The views are spectacular from the hill and, if you have a clear day, you can see most of the city. I would go either in the summer when the weather is amazing or just before Christmas to get the full "magic". I would also get one of the little golf carts up the hill rather than queuing for the funicular.

Great views from the castle. Outstanding history, the ground around the castle are well taken care of. The day that I was here they had some sort of book fair going on with all of the little shops and vendors from around the city. Great time! Had some snacks and some drinks while I was wandering around seeing all of the great sights from the castles walls. I'm a big person on architecture and history, so this is a perfect spot to go

Lovely part of Budapest with spectacular views over the city. Good range of restaurants and quaint streets throughout the area. Make sure to visit The Hospital in the Rock for a truly normative and moving experience. English language tours operate at regular intervals throughout the day and are worth every penny! Highly recommended

This beautiful historical castle is a must see when in Budapest. The history, architecture and stories about the Hungarian Kings are amazing. We opted out of the vehicular and enjoyed the walk up the cobblestone paths which took us back in time. Back in time until Chris & I ran into the hot dogs and goulash sign. ☺

It might be exhausting to get up there but the view is amazing. They say it is pretty crowded by tourists in spring and summer. While I think winter is the best for Budapest. It is like a fairytale. A must-go when you are in the area. Good place to explore.

It is a nice place but too bad they are doing a lot of construction there at the moment. The waiting line is incredibly crowded and you have to wait there for ages. I will recommend to walk up to the castle by the path on the left side of the square to avoid waiting for the cable car. Also traffic is crazy there. A lot of touring cars just standing on the middle of the road. When you are on top of the ill you have a great view over the pest-side of the city and a beautiful view over the river. When you have been to the castle you can walk to some other places through narrow streets. It almost feels like a small village inside of a big city. So yes it is crowded but a must-see if you are in the city.

Lovely place with breathtaking view of the entire place. You can go up by tram or one of the private services that use a large golf cart. Note that while going up is quite hard, coming down is easier and can be a fun experience. If you plan to go down by foot, you can buy a one way ticket and save some money. The private services will promise you a car in 2 minutes, but it usually takes 7-10 minutes. In the palace there is a short change of guards every hour. It is nice. Nothing more and nothing less. Wandering about the complex is a must. The first and castle are must see sights.

A 1km wide area about 200m above the Danube with wonderful views of the river and city beyond. The most medieval part of Budapest with cobbled streets and histrionic buildings. Matthias church is a wonderful building and the square outside gives an old world feel despite being touristy. Combine with Buda castle visit and it's easy to spend half a day. Downside, lots of walking remember the cobbled streets. Take a warm hat if it's not summer, at the beginning of April when I visited there was a bitter wind

We visited this place on a cold morning. The place is really vast. Has many important monuments and great views of the parliament building. You can easily spend half a day here and if taken easily it will consume full day. You can take public transport from the bottom of mountain Bus 16 will take you up. Note that public transport is really economic here. This is one of the must visits when in Budapest.

This castle is one of my favorites. It is clean, beautiful and big. Also, you can visit Houdini's house. The roof of the church is the most beautiful thing I saw during my trip. I highly recommend to visit this place in Budapest. You will never regret it.

A gorgeous meandering District with plenty to see. There are a good choice of restaurants dotted all along the area. It's especially spectacular at night when the buildings have been lit up against the dark sky. I suggest taking the funicular to get up while a walk down can be quite lovely providing it isn't a hot summers day.

You could spend a whole day up on Budapest's Castle Hill. The easiest way up is the funicular tram. There is an art museum in the old palace. Lots of little restaurants and shops line the street leading to St Matthias Church which is beautiful inside. Climb the church Tower for the best view of Budapest across the Danube. Take great pictures at the Fisherman's Bastion.

The castle district is a cool area to explore. I recommend trying to connect to the 16 or 16A bus to get there via public transit, otherwise you end up hiking up a huge hill. Other public transit gets you close but google maps doesn't account for the huge change in elevation. The castle is free to walk around and explore outside, you just have to pay to go in the museum inside the castle.

Visited the Cave hospital there. A very unusual tourist venue. Indulged in wine tasting in a cellar. Great experience. Walked around absorbing the splendour or architecture and sculpture. If you are feeling energetic, it's well worth the climb up. Save time by avoiding the long que for the funicular on a busy day.

Had a wonderful conclusion to our Viking river cruise in Budapest, Hungary. The history in the Castle District was incredible and we'll done for the interest and comfort of tourists. Budapest as a whole seems to have embraced the industry of tourism. All of the Castle district attractions were very informative and entertaining. It is a must see when traveling in eastern Europe or down the rivers of Europe.

The Castle District is beautiful and has such a rich history. I was with a tour guide thru this district and enjoyed all the facts concerning all the features of this area. In the daytime, there is no better place than this to overlook the city. At night, when it is lighted, it is just gorgeous looking up this hill overlooking the city.

Make this area number 1 on your list as this place is an amazing historic location that you could spend hours visiting and still not see everything. The views of the city of Budapest from this spot have to be seen to be believed. Try to get here early as it fills up with tour groups and then you will be fighting the crowds for the best views.

What a wonderful and beautiful place. One of our favorite in Europe. The place is very well kept, clean, and it was not too crowded. We had a great visit here and wish we could spend more time. Be careful of pick pockets though! Our friend had her phone stolen here and she did not even realize it until few hours later!
