Ample collection of pieces of Hungarian History in a chronological order on the upper floors. Generally very well compiled and interesting, not that recommendable though for tourists as most descriptions, films and audios are in Hungarian.

Museum is worth to visit in a short period of time. U can get a quick glimpse of hungarian ancient history. Otherthan that Nothing special in which it looks similar in terms of exhibiting, while comparing with other museum in Europe.

The museum contents are very interesting. But at the ticket booth the staff asked us our nationality and then treated us so bad. Even when we asked what's difference between permanent ticket and temporary ticket, he said I don't know. How can I know? He is rude and lack of responsibility. Wish the staff was fired. It's a NATIONAL museum where represents your country's face.

The largest and the most important museum in Hungary. Not too much advertised like some others but has some nice and modern exhibitions. Recently housed a conference on medieval numismatics in the Central Hall shown on the photo.

Hungary's rich history is well organized through different little rooms, one for each era. But the details of the artefacts outweighed the explanation and it was difficult to relate the objects to the history. We also took the audioguide, which wasn't interesting at all. Also, the rooms for the second world war and soviet era were too short and not at all detailed. It's a "must've fir history lovers but not very interesting considering the country's rich history.

If you have to visit one museum in Budapest this should be the one you select. They have an outstanding collection of cultural artefacts including clothing, photographs, paintings, furniture and farming tools. It’s one of the most diverse collections in any Budapest museum. While the admission might seem steep, the funds support this national treasure and the rich culture of this country can live on through education. If you are feeling cheap and plan your visit accordingly, admission is FREE on select national holidays. On these free days, there will be huge lines and large attendance so prepared for a crowded visit or arrive later in the day when it gets more quiet. On an average visit it can easily take around 2 hours if you are interested in seeing all the exhibits and getting your monies worth.

Beautiful murals, helpful staff and wifi in the museum. Great collection of artifacts in Hungarian history- armors, structures and all. Easy to get to and is only a couple of stops away from the Great Market.

The same boring exhibitions for 20 years, and in 2018 still no soap in the bathrooms. :D OK, to be fair, there is some progress, as at least there is paper in the toilets, not as in the Hungarian hospitals! :D Hungary perform better, praise king Orbán!

Great museum to learn about Hungarian history. Very much loved the artifacts in the first part of the exhibition with the foundation of Hungary till 1703. Impressive ivory saddle among others. In the second part of the exhibition I enjoyed Liszt’s piano in a separate room were you could listen to his compositions ... very suggestive. Lots of items from WWII and communist occupation but not much explanation/comments about the country’s leanings. Very little explanation about modern Hungary and its 3rd republic since 1989. Don’t miss King Stephen coronation mantle made in 1031 made of Byzantine silk and gold thread. You have to ask as it is locked in a separate room. The coronation crown can be found at the parliament. Grounds under refurbishment.

Great exhibits of Hungarian art from medieval period through modern art. I really enjoyed the modern art. Very different from American artists. Don't miss the view from the top of the rotunda. From 4th floor climb a few steps and then you have the opportunity to step outside for an impressive view of the Danube and House of Parliament. No extra charge, it's included in ticket price. There is an elevator from ground level all the way up to the 4th floor for those that have done enough climbing for a day.

Easy to get to and is only a couple of stops away from the Great Market. Take tram 47 or 49 to the Great Market. They also take you across the bridge to the Citadel.

Went cause it was free and included in our Budapest City pass. Really rich history and detail is put into the pre WW1 parts. However alot of the exhibits on WW1, WW2, and the Communist Era are very weak and don't really tell a true narrative. I found they were often worded in ways that put the country as the victim rather than an aggressor which is sometimes the case. It feels a bit censored which is a little worrying as Liberty Square had a similar problem with its newly elected monument. Worth a visit if you are looking for more to do in Budapest. Skip it if you aren't a history buff or don't have time.
