The Liberty Statue or Freedom Statue (Hungarian: Szabadság-szobor [ˈsɒbɒtt͡ʃaːɡ ˈsobor]) is a monument on the Gellért Hill in Budapest, Hungary. It commemorates those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and prosperity of Hungary.
It was first erected in 1947 in remembrance of the Soviet liberation of Hungary during World War II, which ended the occupation by Nazi Germany. Its location upon Gellért Hill makes it a prominent feature of Budapest's cityscape.
Amazing views as this place is at a higher altitude than the Buda Castle. Must visit if you can as you will not be disappointed.

One of the top sights to cover in Budapest. Absolute must for photographers to capture iconic postcard like photos of Budapest.

Fantastic view of Budapest and of liberty statue up close, is a hard walk all up hill and steps, but worth it, there is food and drink stalls at the top to get your energy back and it's easier on the way down

Beautiful views from up here. Nice and clean and definitely a place to bring a picnic in the warmer months. Only had a day here so didn't get to spend much time here. I will be back.

We found the Statue of Liberty to be an impressive site, that we viewed from a Danube Tour (by Dock 8A - recommended). Interesting to view it from this angle and very grand high on the hill!

The statue itself there is nothing much to it. The history behind it however, is intriguing. Being the one of the few communist symbols left in the city. It does look like a bottle opener. The view from the top here is just jaw dropping. Specially at sunset.

This is one of the best points to see the view of Budapest. All the roads lead up to this point so you can get lost and find your self on this hill. the view is breath taking. All the bridges can be seen right below

Statue is fine but the view... Amazing both during the day and in the evening. Something you have to see yourself. The city never shines more than from this hill.

Anotehr place that you should visit in Budapest. The only thing I can add to a good review by a reputable travel company: Don't play any street games with the hustlers creeping around the statute.

Very cool walk to the top...its interesting concept and lovely view from the top. There are no charges to get into the park, or to see anything. All is free. There are several ways to get to the top, and it seems most of them are the same distance from the bottom. Its pretty steep, so people will special needs, pr parents with the kids be aware. On a hot day like today, it can get super warm and humid, so also be careful...overall, highly recommended site.

The best sunset u can see. And a spectacular view of the Budapest city once it's dark and all lit. A tough, steep hike up but totally worth it. Gives a very safe vine up here. There are a few eateries up here as well.

Best Vista point in town! Never view than from the palace grounds by far. A bit steep climb will make for a nice workout, though it is accessible by car. If you have the time it is worth the visit!

There are no direct routes to the top of the hill u less you're riding with a tour group or something. It'll be a bit of a hike to get up to the top, but there are plenty of paved paths and routes. Beautiful statue with a storied history depicting the changes in the country post WWII and the era of communism. Amazing view of the city and it can get quite crowded in the evening in the summer with tourists and locals all looking to enjoy the sites. Lots of young people bring alcohol up there to have fun too.

I guess you kind of have to go here if you are in Budapest. The view is spectacular but actually you get just as good view if you go to the Budda-castle and it is a LOT easier walking there. The park is nice but a bit difficult to find your way down since there are no signs.

A moderately strenuous hike to get up to the statue. View of Budapest from the top is pretty good. View of the statue is actually not great because you are too close and it is up too high. Statue is better-viewed from other points.
