Vajdahunyad Castle (Hungarian: Vajdahunyad vĂĄra) is a castle in the City Park of Budapest, Hungary. It is a copy of Hunyad Castle, known as Corvin Castle (Romanian: Castelul Corvinilor), in Hunedoara, Romania. It was built in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition which celebrated the 1,000 years of Hungary since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin in 895. The castle was designed by IgnĂĄc AlpĂĄr to feature copies of several landmark buildings from different parts of the Kingdom of Hungary, especially the Hunyad Castle in Transylvania (now in Romania). As the castle contains parts of buildings from various time periods, it displays different architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. Originally, it was made from cardboard and wood, but it became so popular that it was rebuilt from stone and brick between 1904 and 1908. Today, it houses the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, the biggest agricultural museum in Europe.
The statue of the chronicler Anonymus (by Miklós Ligeti) is also displayed in the castle court. Anonymus lived in the 12th century (his true identity is unknown, but he was a notary of Béla III of Hungary), who wrote the chronicle Gesta Hungarorum (Deeds of the Hungarians).

The outside of the all the buildings in the park are beautiful, the castle (from the outside is stunning) I would recommend only staying outside and taking photos of that! Because, inside is honestly horrible. It was the same price for the national gallery and as soon as I walked in it smelled of dead people and rotting animals. And I couldnât believe to see my eyes. They had taxidermy animals that clearly werenât done right and smelled like they where rotting. There was no detail of anything in the museum!! None!! There would be old cups and it would say next to it âcupsâ and not where they are from or any information. They could have talked about what the castle was. Which they didnât. And the building had chunks falling off the walls. And no heat was on and 98% of the lights where not turned on. It was a huge rip off and I felt sick after walking around for 2 hours.

Amazing atmosphere and we were lucky to be there on a Sunday with a local food market. There are three different "castles" right next to each other in different building styles, and the atmosphere throws you instantly back to the late middle ages. The park itself is also beautiful.

Whilst I didn't go inside any of the buildings, the architecture here is absolutely outstanding. Truly beautiful. The surrounding parkland is also very beautiful. You can easily access here from Metro M1 and it's a very short walk from Heroes' Square, which is convenient since you can visit both attractions on the same outing. Szechenyi baths is nearby.

I've only seen it from the outside and it is beautiful. You can take some great pictures in front of the small lake, which is right next to the castle.

Beautiful castle but not much else to do other than see it from the outside. Good to have a look on your way to the szechenyi bath.

An incredibly picturesque castle right in the middle of city park. There is a lake in front of it that has a nice restaurant and where you can rent pedal boats by the hour. The castle was built out of wood, cardboard and paper for the millennial celebration but was so popular that it was reconstructed out of brick and stone a few years later. The grounds are gorgeous. You can tour two of the towers and it contains the agricultural museum. Don't miss seeing it (I didn't see the museum or take the tours).

This is definitely one of the best castle I've ever seen in Europe. Located in a lovely park and every building here are so gorgeous. Most tourists don't come here but I really recommend everyone to take a walk around its neighborhood.

Beautiful place to visit. It has the museum of agriculture in it. Also check out the statue of Anonymous. It has a beautiful lake around it with small bridges. Also next to it you can check out the rink. This place has a great view from there. :)

Very beautiful place to visit, the architecture is amazing. We did not go inside, but looking at the other reviews I don't regret it at all. There is also a small lake and a park next to it, so it's perfect to spend some time outside while you are there. Would recommend to visit it if you are traveling to Budapest.

This is a super cool area to explore. The castle and the surrounding park have a great atmosphere. The museum inside the castle also outlines some Hungarian history and is interesting to see.

The outside is beautiful, the inside is interesting, but some places are in disrepair or carry questionable messages, like walls covered with hundreds of deer heads in one of the rooms. I understand it's part of the heritage but still... The gatehouse tower is not worth the visit, the other one (forgot the name) offers a nice view.

Such a beautiful place situated in the middle of a huge park. After visiting and clicking pictures,, we decided to chill with some nice tea and ice creams. Peddle boating is available outside the castle.

Attended an outdoor summer concert here. Lovely courtyard setting with a huge plane tree over the stage. With the evening breeze the leaves of the tree seemed to be moving in time to the music. A magical setting.
