Loved the show but it was too short. The food was delicious and covers every diet and lifestyle that one might be on. The first show was spectacularly displayed and presented. The animation, acting and projectors were perfectly synced. The only issue was that the microphones weren't working properly so barely heard anything. However you can understand what's going on because of the video. I would suggest that they equip the dinning area with a theme to feel more involved with the whole Aboriginal experience.
Had a beautiful time. Came twice. First was for the dinner experience. Amazing evening with drinks and dinner. First time eating crocodile, was amazing. Second day we came to learn to throw a boomerang and paint one. Had a great time with our guide Jacob!
The grounds are stunning. We went on a quiet day and had a few of the exhibits to ourselves, which was amazing. Our guide didn't seem to be a spectacular leader, and we were left scratching our heads a bit about the way things were organized and presented to us. Good performances and authentic Aboriginal experiences. Thank you.
This is a fun experience. The dinner show was fabulous. They interact with the audience. Our overseas visitors from California really enjoyed themselves getting involved in traditional tribal dance and fire making. Giving us all facial paint was also fun. The buffet food was fantastic. We planned it that we attended after catching the cable car down from Kuranda as it is located not far from there. Altogether a great experience and highly recommended.
Disappointed. Quite expensive for what you got. Guided tour where they rush you because of other people doing cable car. Would have liked some time at least to see it. Historical component was unavailable because of broken computer but nothing offered in it's stead.
Aboriginal culture is alive and thriving in this modern cultural centre located in park-like surroundings. Here you will discover the heart and soul of Australia. There's a gallery of unique indigenous art where 'traditional meets modern' and an exhibition of local crafts, and hands-on activities (including spear and boomerang throwing). The dancing show is very interactive and loads of fun. The facilities are world class and the guides are knowledgeable, friendly and hospitable. Tjapukai is one of the best places to visit while in Cairns.
I have a great interest in Aboriginal culture and this place blew me away. There is many displays to look at including a dance performance and guided experiences to take part in including boomerang & spear throwing, learning about bush foods and their rituals. There is a variety of experiences that are offered as extensions which I did both the creative experience & bush tucker & medicine walk which included lunch ($30) and afternoon tea.
I joined the Night fire event. Not so crowded in week days, and if you book online you can save 10% off. The performance quite nice, friendly artist and you can join them with some dances, face painting, etc. The dinner buffet is delicious. In overall, quite expensive for 2.5 hrs programe but worth to visit.
Enriching experience. Guides are knowledgeable and give good time to visitors in educating the aboriginal culture. Good mix of fun activities, entertainment, knowledge in the national park. Special thanks to Joe for being wonderful guide. Must visit if you like to know about aboriginals.
Very interesting. The guided tour lasted 2.5 hours approximately with different stations. Our favourite being the boomerang and spear throwing (although we would have liked to throw more than 2 spears and 3 tries at the boomerang throwing, guessing this is because of the size of the last tour at 2pm for the day). We were disappointed that the boomerang painting was only at 11:30am. Also our guided tour didn’t do all the things promised in the brochure, we didn’t do the face painting or traditional oven demonstration and guessing other items listed were all done in the dance. None the less fun, informative and friendly staff. The cafe had delicious food for lunch as well.
We enjoyed our visit to this centre very much. We brought our 3 kids (10-14 years) and I'd say it was an eye opener for them! They could start to understand the culture of the Aboriginal people in the area and also start to grasp the complexities of Aboriginal life today. The tour is a guided tour that consists of several "stations". The multimedia show was a bit difficult to understand I think. The dance and music segment were great. We also enjoyed the spear and boomerang throwing. And it was great to be able to ask lots of questions. It might be the first time that many of us white people (Australians and tourists) get to speak to an Aboriginal person first hand. Thank you for their patience. There should be more such centres all over and they should get lots of visitors. The only small draw back was the relative high price for a family of 5. But I guess that is due to all the staff that is being employed. Perhaps it should be government subsidised a little, in particular for families that have more than 2 children.
The beginning of the evening was lovely and then our time outside was fun and interesting. We were very disappointed during the dinner that there was no show (except for 2 quick song/dance). We left feeling like there was so much more for us to learn and understand. The evening was rolling ahead beautifully and then it stopped abruptly. Very disappointed with the sudden end to the evening.
What a great night. We arrived to predinner drinks and canapé that where so delicious. And walked around the gallery, the night fire show was fun and interactive. I’m not a huge group participant but they had me up and dancing. After an amazing dinner where I sampled half a dozen different meats with beautiful salads and veggies we finished our drinks with more entertainment and mingled with the staff, who where extremely friendly and fun to chat with. Fabulous light hearted cultural experience. Thanks for a fabulous night Tjapukai
