The Giza pyramid complex (also called the Giza necropolis) in Egypt is home to the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx. All were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, between 2600 and 2500 BC. The site also includes several temples and cemeteries and the remains of a workers' village.
The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 kilometres (8 mi) southwest of the city centre of Cairo. It forms the northernmost part of the 16,000-hectare (40,000-acre) Pyramid Fields of the Memphis and its Necropolis UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1979. The pyramid fields include the Abu Sir, Saqarra and Dahshur pyramid complexes, that were all built in the vicinity of Egypt's ancient capital of Memphis.
One of the best ancient site I have visited. Thousands of years of history in one place. Especially when you have been familiar with it for years from your middle school ancient history book. Opt for a local private guide recommended by one of the local friends if you have such. Best if you can spend a day there. If short on time 3 hours would be enough to see the highlights and listen to the most important facts.

Of course everyone knows about this place. If you are going via a tour company, well and good. If you plan to go on your own, just have a lot of patience. Politely say no to the men at the vehicle check point. Do not fall for the fact the fake official id that they show. Walk around and enjoy the view and do not get onto a camel without asking correctly. You climb up for 10 dollars but the price you pay to get down can be up-to 200 dollars. If you are looking for food around, try Mena house, or the pizza hut for a cheaper option, both of which come with some wonderful views. Keep your things safe and enjoy the only remaining old wonder of the world. It is definitely worth every penny.

A wonderful place to go. Enjoying the pyramids and people of Egypt. Seeing the pyramids was a special opportunity to visit what is one of the wonders of our world. Truly part of the nation visitors are among real Egyptians who are welcoming and friendly. Of course you are hounded by people selling curios and tat as well as rides on camels but despite this it is a great site to visit that is unforgettable.

What to say... It’s stunning, amazing, breathtaking and one of the seven wonders of the world. Go and see it... Usually this is a very busy spot but due to low tourism in Egypt at the moment, this felt like quite a private experience compared to past visits with many tour buses ruining the scenery. The local tradesmen selling goods and camel rides seem to have caught on to this as well and there were far fewer of them than I remember and they also did not hassle us as much as I remember when visiting several times in the 90’s and early 00’s. Actually, we did not get hassled at all this time around thinking of it. I personally get a bit claustrophobic inside of the pyramids. The air is quite dusty. Maybe taking a hanker-chief to the mouth to prevent breathing dust in could help. You will also have to climb upwards in rather narrow space so being a bit more sporty than me would help too. Kids would love it.

Wonderful to see the pyramids up close and in person. We received minimal heckling from locals offering camel rides and the like and they were respectful when we told them no. Though you can't climb all of the way to the top you are allowed to do a little climbing which was fun. The stones are so huge! I'll definitely go again to see the inside of the main pyramid which costs extra.
