The Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha or Alabaster Mosque (Arabic: مسجد محمد علي; Turkish: Mehmet Ali Paşa Camii) is a mosque situated in the Citadel of Cairo in Egypt and was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
Situated on the summit of the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest to be built in the first half of the 19th century, is, with its animated silhouette and twin minarets, the most visible mosque in Cairo.

Super beautiful sunset view like heaven. I was there in December 2017. The sun seems like floating on cappuccino, separated the city by a thin layer of cloud. You can tell the color difference of air up and down the cloud. Darken pyramids under the shinny sun makes the contrast. Just amazing.

Large, impressive mosque which can be seen overlooking Cairo. To visit it, you must buy a ticket to enter the citadel. Tourists are welcome to visit the mosque, other than during Friday prayers. Conservative dress is appropriate, but women do not need to cover their hair. You can either take off your shoes when you enter or buy the inexpensive plastic covers to slip over your shoes.

The mosque itself is beautiful, but what’s even better is the place around it. It’s not just a historic mosque built by Muhammad Ali Pasha, but it’s also a place that Cairo citizens hold very dear because of its significance. The trek up can be a bit tough for some people, but I’d say it’s worth it. There is also a viewing deck which overlooks the entire city of Cairo and provides astonishing views.

A majestic place to visit in Cairo as well as the citadel where the mosque is located. The columns and the ceilings are marvelous! It's a real treasure that needs more attention. DO NOT HESITATE & GO THERE!

A historic mosque with admirable architecture. The stunning interior design, the high dome. The chandelier and the vast indoor area are amazing.

Super beautiful sunset view like heaven. I was there in December 2017. The sun seems like floating on cappuccino. The sun and the city were separated by a thin layer of foamy cloud, staying in the middle of sky. Watching the sunset from the Citadel, you can easily tell the color difference of air up and down the cloud. Dark pyramids under shinny sun makes the contrast. Just amazing.

It's very huge monument but like all in Cairo dusty not reconstructed very well. Atmosphere is there like in some nice pleasure meeting point because there is shadow so people rest there because citadel is on top of hill and you are expose to sun all the time. Architecture is very typical for Muslims. Cost 100 egp. Restaurant is there but strange nobody is there.

the first time you get inside this mosque, you will take a breath automatically while you see the big lamp hanging inside. The architecture are very classic and epic. Suck a throwback to the past and rethinking how they build it. The best spot to take photos is near exit gate of its mosque, where you can capture whole lamps and yourself with a good natural lighting. Do not forget to mind your step inside because some birds fly freely inside and they left "footprints" on the carpet.

Google map had been super helpful for my whole stay.
