The convent, cloister and chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria de la Popa are located at the top of Mount Popa, in Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia.
The religious complex dates back to 1607, when the original wooden chapel and palm of the Popa was erected, thanks to the preaching of the Discalced Augustinian friar Vicente Mallol.

A historic site that should part of a visit to Cartagena . Most of the information plaques are only in Spanish -have a guide give you the tour of La Popa. View of the city is great. Book a round trip taxi to prevent a lengthy wait at the top.

Whether you're religious or not, this place is worth seeing just for the views of the city below. The Monastery is beautiful and well-preserved. There's a couple of vendors outside trying to sell the usual stuff but they leave you alone if you tell them, "no". Add this place to your list!

One of the highest places in Cartagena overlooking the city. It closed earlier than we expected so we had to rush through but it was a very peaceful place oozing with historical references and a celebration of the Catholic faith. We were hoping to catch the sun setting but we had to leave before the sun went down. Still, a beautiful view and one of the most stunning garden courtyards I saw in the city. Bring food and drink - there isn't much to purchase there. A small gift shop is available with very reasonably priced rosaries and rosary bracelets.

The most amazing view of the city is seen from La Popa. The convent is full of amazing history and artifacts.

This place offers an impressive hilltop view of Cartagena. It is about a 25 minute trip outside of the old city and should only cost you 22-25 COP. The convent was quiet on this day, but I'm sure it can get busy. The cost was 10 COP to get in and there are some quant rooms. Please see my 360 degree pictures. Good view if you dont speak spanish better off just stopping at the top of the hill for a photo. Also dont let your taxi go super difficult to get one there later. We had to walk down the hill
