The Chicago Picasso (often just The Picasso) is an untitled monumental sculpture by Pablo Picasso in Daley Plaza in Chicago, Illinois. The Picasso "precipitated an aesthetic shift in civic and urban planning, broadening the idea of public art beyond the commemorative."
The cor-ten steel sculpture, dedicated on August 15, 1967, in the civic plaza in the Chicago Loop, is 50 feet (15.2 m) tall and weighs 162 short tons (147 t). The Cubist sculpture by Picasso was the first such major public artwork in Downtown Chicago, and has become a well-known landmark. Publicly accessible, it is known for its inviting jungle gym-like characteristics. Visitors to Daley Plaza can often be seen climbing on and sliding down the base of the sculpture.

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to describing what this sculpture is but use the base of this sculpture to slide down it! You have to slide down it- AT LEAST ONCE! Don't feel you're "too old" or "too mature" because that mentality ages you and robs you of living your life to the fullest! And while you're there, go check out the eternal flame that honors troops! It's just feet away from the sculpture enclosed in a metal fence to keep people from stepping/falling into it. * Don't mind the bums! They're always hanging out in downtown Chicago looking for people who are willing to give them money.

A fantastic public work of art by the noted creator, Pablo Picasso. An imposing, but interesting sculpture, located very centrally in the city, right outside Macy's and Block 37. Not often crowded, it's easy to come and take in the view and have a wee think. The square in which the sculpture stands also hosts the Christkindlmarkt in Chicago every year. During the city's frequent cold spells, you can also spot pigeons huddling around the braziers that punctuate the square...

Great piece of art in the middle of the city. Worth taking a walk here as the square around is nice as well.

It's amazing to look at. If you love art you should really check this place out and other sculptures downtown around it.

A beautiful piece of art, withstanding all of our elements! Slide down it, take a selfie with it, have it as your backdrop when watching the Blackhawks drive by with the Stanley Cup!

Ate lunch here during jury duty. It was a good alternative to the stuffy lounge in the courthouse. It was also full of people all day. Some were obviously families coming to enjoy the view, others were jurors or folks who worked in the area eating or smoking. There's good access to trash bins, recycling bins, a short walk to Walgreen's and McDonald's.

The last Friday of every month is when cyclists meet up here for Critical Mass Chicago. Critical Mass is a good way of joining a group ride that will watch out for you, move at a good pace, and show you the city in ways you'd never expect. Normally the folks start showing up around 530 and the ride rolls out between 6/630 Chicago has a lot of group bike rides but generally this is the biggest one that goes year round. We've done some where The Route was less aggressive, but many involve taking the streets on very main streets.

Great place to meet someone - easy landmark to find ... Or get directions to. Great place to eat lunch to go - from home or from any of numerous nearby restaurants. Great place to people watch. Great place to just sit and enjoy Chicago.

For me that I'm from Spain it has been a great and big surprise to find a Picasso sculpture here. I really love all his work so the only thing left to say you can't miss it!
