Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor, that is the centerpiece of AT&T Plaza at Millennium Park in the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois. The sculpture and AT&T Plaza are located on top of Park Grill, between the Chase Promenade and McCormick Tribune Plaza & Ice Rink. Constructed between 2004 and 2006, the sculpture is nicknamed "The Bean" because of its shape, a name Kapoor initially disliked, but later grew fond of. Made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams. It measures 33 by 66 by 42 feet (10 by 20 by 13 m), and weighs 110 short tons (100 t; 98 long tons).
Kapoor's design was inspired by liquid mercury and the sculpture's surface reflects and distorts the city's skyline. Visitors are able to walk around and under Cloud Gate's 12-foot (3.7 m) high arch. On the underside is the "omphalos" (Greek for "navel"), a concave chamber that warps and multiplies reflections. The sculpture builds upon many of Kapoor's artistic themes, and it is popular with tourists as a photo-taking opportunity for its unique reflective properties.

Iconic place. Really cool ice skate ring in front of The Bean and good for taking a photo in Chicago. Very touristy place and nice to walk around the area just for relaxation or fun. It was my first time there and I am very impressed with it. I’ll definitely take my parents here when they fly to visits me in the States. Very safe have police biking to check around the area all the time.

Awesome place ! Iconic bean shaped cloud which makes for some great photographs. Great view of city skyline from here. Must visit place for tourists. Nice park for a stroll but plenty of tourists due to nearby attractions. Good place for family or group. Parked car at nearby paid parking lot.

Worth a visit for some time in the park. Get some photos with The Bean- it's like taking pictures at a fun house, where you are mirrored, distorted, and elongated. Security cameras and police are present. I've never been bothered here. You can ice skate in the winter and play in the fountain in the summer. Free public restrooms on location, which is useful when out and about, just have hand sanitation on you. I can practically SEE the viruses on the door handles!

A modern architectural marvel. Made of shining steel structure it looks like a bean that attracts people from all corners of Illinois. It looks beautiful especially on clear sunny days when the reflection of the blue sky falls on the gate. Its like an entrance to the Millennium Park.

Such a beautiful sculpture in Chicago. It can be very crowded at times because of tourists but offers some amazing photography opportunities. The area surrounding it is beautiful and well worth a leisurely stroll through the parks.

I love coming to this. It doesn't matter if it's snow on the ground or clear as long as you have sun, it's great to see. The way the buildings are seen on this big mirrored bean are so beautiful. Great tourist attraction and must for all that visit this city to see. It's located in a central area and allows you to see so much of that park it resides in.

People say that it’s not much to see but I think it is really cool. The best part is standing under it. The overall architecture of this is awesome. Go check it out and see what’s underneath it.

Awesome reflection of the vibrant city. The sculpture is well crafted mirror polished steel. Walking through the gate creates great optical patterns collectively looking like an eye. The skyline reflections around it are awesome. Situated in millennium park, the cloudgate or the bean as it is known is a must visit place in town.

I remember when The Bean was proposed and in construction, everyone was like "that's crazy, what a waste of money." Now it's one of the top attractions of Chicago. Truly a must see, there is nothing like it in the world! Whether you're a local or visiting from out of town, a trip to Millennium Park to walk around the Bean is worth every minute. Couple this with a short walk over the bridge to Maggie Daley Park or to the Art Institute and you have an amazing outing for the whole family.

Beautiful sculpture and public art piece. Usually crammed with people is there only downside, but even so, it's something worth seeing if you've never seen it. Plus, it's right in the center of down town, so there are tons of other things in the area to see and do. Walk along the water front or get a good City view on your way from the aquarium to the Bean and you will get some good exercise and a beautiful view of Chicago.

I came here to visit with my spouse and found the area and space to be pretty good. It was fairly crowded when we were here, but it was our first time and we kind of enjoyed it anyway. It is a fascinating piece of artwork that allowed us to playfully take pictures at different angles, so we did and included them in the write up. We spent a little over an hour here.

Just amazing. This is a very good place to visit. Only problem is with the parking. Its too costly. Its around 27 dollars for half hour on week days and around 21 dollars on weekends. The security staff is so good. I happened to visit at the very end of the closing time and the staff made us to clear the area. When we said we came all the way from Ohio, they just gave us a couple of minutes and even took photos of ours.

The bean is something you definitely need to see, it is a really nice place to take pictures. The Bean Is massive people take pictures from far away and different angles with the buildings, they also take pictures underneath the bean. I recommend coming early in the morning you can spend a whole day here, there is also a part that connects that has a bunch of swings and rides. Across the street is the Art Institute of Chicago and there is some places to walk and explore.

This is one of my favourite attraction while we were in Chicago. It is a very busy spot and you have to be patient if you want to take pictures of your reflection. The architecture of this monument is quite impressive and elegant. We went on a cloudy day and the lighting was decent, I can imagine that it would be better on a sunny day. Either way... A must see while you are in Chicago.

This is one of the few must-see attractions in Chicago. It's within walking distance of the Art Institute and Field Museum, so it's easy to combine with other sightseeing. The sculpture has some crazy reflections and it's very photogenic with the tall buildings behind it. Definitely a fun way to spend a half hour seeing one of the newer but still iconic sights in the city.

I had an amazing time visiting this place. I was there a month ago and it was cold but still was a good day. If you want a good picture try to go in the morning is less crowded. There are great restaurants near the bean. Make sure you go to Garrett Popcorn it was delicious. They also have many food trucks around the park.

Always a fun place to visit! All of millenium park is! We took our whole family and my in-laws and we were able to spend hours walking around enjoying different areas! However, I do suggest paying for parking ahead of time on their website, you'll save like half the cost if you pay online. They do have park security walking around and if you can't find an area that you're looking for, they were very helpful with giving directions! We will definitely be going back in the future!

I had a very positive experience at Cloud Gate. Even though it was raining when I went, the park area was still really nice to walk around. The big attraction, the bean, is a really cool place. There is a large flat area to stand on when looking at the bean. The area is big enough so that you can fit the entire bean in the frame when taking a photo. It’s awesome that you can get right up close to the bean and touch it, and you can even go underneath it. I would definitely visit Cloud Gate again!

This is pine pith place we liked. The reflecting surfaces being concave and convex produce so many images. It is interesting that you can picture yourself with several images in different sizes. Holiday season makes taking pictures a challenge as someone could photo bomb you anytime.

Extremely fun, active park with many culturally diverse sculptures, artistic drawings and paintings. Very family and friend oriented with lots to do and incredible eateries. All within walking distance to Lake Michigan. As well as Navy Pier. Great tourist location with lots of once in a lifetime experiences. Located within a few blocks of all of Chicago land world famous museums, art galleries, and the shed aquarium.

Walked here while checking out Chicago. It was a nice sunny day, sculpture was shiny and beautiful. Being a popular attraction means there were lots of other people there as well. Fortunately there’s no line to wait in to get to the ‘bean,’ but plenty of people around that will appear in your pics.

The Bean! I have such amazing memories of this sculpture, it is my #1 go-to for all my out of town visitors. I've been here for an evening laser light installation, which was truly phenomenal. This was also the location of my very first (and last) flash mob! I've seen countless wedding and Quinceañera photos, and utilized cloud gate as a backdrop for some amazing photos and group events. I love that it's featured in the opening sequence of Sense8 - it's truly an iconic part of Chicago!
