The Rookery Building is a historic office building located at 209 South LaSalle Street in the Chicago Loop. Completed by architects Daniel Burnham and John Wellborn Root of Burnham and Root in 1888, it is considered one of their masterpiece buildings, and was once the location of their offices. The building is 181 feet (55Â m) in height, twelve stories tall, and is considered the oldest standing high-rise in Chicago. It has a unique construction style featuring exterior load-bearing walls and an interior steel frame, providing a transition between accepted and new building techniques. The lobby was remodeled in 1905 by Frank Lloyd Wright. From 1989 to 1992, the lobby was restored to Wright's design.
The building was designated a Chicago Landmark on July 5, 1972, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1970 and listed as a National Historic Landmark on May 15, 1975.
When I read Devil in the white city, I heard about this building. It is impressing and so elegant! I loved it! OMG!!! Super amazing architecture. What catches my attention is the architecture of this place. Some pictures are uploaded. Really recommend this place if you love architecture.

Cool building with lots of history. Really like how they left one corner inside original so you can see what the inner area looked Louie befire Frank Loyd Wright re-decorated it.

I work in the building. It has nice clean public amenities. The inside atrium is great so all offices have natural light. The staff have been very friendly.

The guided tour was incredibly informative and well worth the cost. The interior of the Rookery is gorgeous, too.

When visiting, you are only allowed in the main lobby. You have to pay for the tour to see the true beauty. I understand but a bit disappointing.

I currently work in this building. It’s well known for its history and architectural beauty. However, it’s also an awesome place to work! Rozelle, the elevator gal, is so sweet. She knows many employees names, if she sees me carrying a lot she’ll have an elevator ready for me. The Rookery staff, including Nicole, are so helpful and always go above and beyond for tenants. A central location close to great places.

This is one of Chicago's most revered historical buildings. An architectural gem that was originally Daniel Burnham's base of operations. The lobby is not to be missed, but only open during the work week.

Beautiful inside and out. If you can I recommend taking the tours to learn more about the history!

An architectural pilgrimage and World Heritage site, combining the original vision of two of America's most influential architects - Burham and Root, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Do not miss this gem!
