St. John Cantius Parish (Polish: Parafia Świętego Jana Kantego) is a historic church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago known for its solemn liturgies and rich program of sacred art and music.
The entire church is gorgeous! Has Latin and vernacular masses. Also has the High Mass in Latin. The choir is absolutely gorgeous when it's singing world-class performances to glorify God in the mass. The church was built in the early 20th century and has spectacular art and architecture maintained by the Canons Regular, an order dedicated to the preservation and revival of beauty. Parking is hard to come by, but definitely worth the trip.
A parish church of nearly unmatched beauty with a focus on the Traditional Latin Mass and truly Catholic devotions and practices. It is far more "Catholic" than many of the other "Catholic churches" in the Archdiocese. A true gem. I'm so glad to be able to come here at least once a week.
If you wish for things to be in the traditional way in Latin, kneeling down for Communion, a Choir that sounds as though it were from Heaven. People are serious, most are dressed for Sunday and all the children are well behaved.
The most open, friendly, and reverent parish in Chicago. Everything done to a T. 8 full time priests, all of the forms of the Mass, and a heavy focus on sacred music (often including professional choirs and an orchestra). It is also one of the most beautiful churches in the country.
Unbelievable beauty, exceptional atmosphere , unforgettable spiritual experience. We wish we live closer and knew about the church earlier. However, despite 1 hr. commute we love to come with our teenage kids when we have a chance.
Absolutely beautiful! The church is very clean and mass is always enjoyable ;) The priests are always so sweet and the people here are very nice and respectable for the Catholic religion. I recommend anyone to come here! Also, confessions are always heard! (Ps. If you're a female, don't forget to wear a veil!)
They are very, very reverent of the Mass. It was and is extremely edifying to attend Mass there. As a child it had a large part in forming me in the faith. And of course, the church is amazingly beautiful.
This is a gorgeous church, Latin liturgies, lots of altar boys & priests ... I wish there were more havens like this around the city true to the spirit of Catholicism. They also have wonderful concerts and outdoor pilgrimages on special feast days.
Spiritually abusive!I was overheard in the Confessional and then shortly later I got an email from a "friend" who strongly rebuked me for something I had done. He told me that he heard it from two others and someone overheard me (not the priest, in other words). When I have told others about this at Cantius I got a big yawn. *I* am the one who is always causing trouble. I was ostracized here. People were always gossiping about me.I have had more bad experiences too. The high rating on Google is due to tribalism. People are far more interested in nice dress or Latin than they are on being nonjudgmental or not gossiping. They don't care about the internal state of their hearts because the externals are far more important here.Stay away!
