Very good museum. Nice light on the sculpture and plaster. And yes the sculpture are not old (19 th) because it's neoclassicism. Not antiquity. Nice idea not only to put the art of the artist but also personal object and his private collection of antiquities. Neoclassicism is a revival of the styles and spirit of classic antiquity inspired directly from the classical period

The sculptures are not old, they are from 19th but still it's art, and it's very enjoyable. This place takes more time than you expected, it does not look like it but it's big! Plan for a long visit here. Totally worth a visit.

Thorvaldsens Museum is beautiful, although it's *just* sculptures. It's located right next to Christiansborg (parliament building) and it's worth visiting. Bertel Thorvaldsen is Danish famous sculpturer that spent most of his adult life in Italy, working for commission there and also in Denmark. His talent is remarkable as seen in the display of the statues. I can't really say more apart from that this is a beautiful museum. You must spend time to visit this place

A really good museum. Much bigger than you would expect from the outside, which really shows both the quality, variety and longevity of the works of Bertel Thorvaldsen, one of the best sculptures of Denmark

Pretty small, but the sculptures are amazing. There are many famous people from history represented as well.

If you're visiting Copenhagen (especially if using the Copenhagen card), Thorvaldsens Museum is a no brainer to visit. Containing an enormous collection of Thorvaldsen and his apprentices' works, visitors will be awestruck by things as simple as the mouldings on the walls. Coming from Canada, even our parliament buildings don't have so much detail and ornamentation in them.

Recommended only for art lovers who appreciate sculptures. Art photographers may also like the place. I personally visited the place only because this was included in the Copenhagen city tourist card.

Really great for the sculpture buff. Lots of pieces, and lots of plaster early versions, which have a cool patena you won't get on the marbles you find elsewhere.

I am more well-versed in art history than at least 98% of travelers, yet I didn't know Bertel Thorvaldsen until I started planning my trip to Nordic countries. Thorvaldsen is basically the Jacques-Louis David in sculpture! He was definitely a master!! When visiting, focus on the first floor and use the excellent audioguide!

Statues like no other place on town. Absolutely stunning building on the outside, but nothing compares to what awaits on the 3 floors inside. With over 100 originals and plenty of plaster replicas theres plenty to see here. Tickets by the door. (Wednesdays free admission) Wardrobe and toilets are to find in the basement along side the 3 explanatory exhibitions: from clay to sculpture, Tecnique and workshop ang early busts. On the grond floor you will see marble and plaster statues. Including "the Christ hall" where plaster versions of Crist and his apostles, later shown in Copenhagen monestary church, is displayed. On the 1st floor you will find antiquitys and German, French, Italian and Danish golden age paintings and the court /grave yard viewis to experience here to. Here's an archive of tiny finds like antique egyptian, greek, Etrusian and Roman jewelry and coins. A studyhall for schollars. Two meeting/reading halls. All of the exhibitions are exhibited as close to the day the museum opened as possible.

Some nice statues. Thorvaldsens personal collection of items and paintings on the second floor was more interesting though.

I went there exclusively to see the original plaster of the Christus. I was impressed. I had seen a couple replicas of it made for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is my favorite sculpture of Christ. He is presented as the resurrected Jesus in a majestic and yet humble manner. The gallery has the twelve apostles as well. Thorvaldsen was truly an inspired artist.
