Muckross House (Irish: Teach Mhucrois) is located on the small Muckross Peninsula between Muckross Lake and Lough Leane, two of the lakes of Killarney, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the town of Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland. In 1932 it was presented by William Bowers Bourn and Arthur Rose Vincent to the Irish nation. It thus became the first National Park in the Irish Free State (now Republic of Ireland) and formed the basis of the present day Killarney National Park.
Muckross House is a mansion designed by the British architect, William Burn, built in 1843 for Henry Arthur Herbert and his wife, the watercolourist Mary Balfour Herbert.

This was one of the the highlights of our trip to Ireland. The tours get sold out quick so we had to come back the next day but it was worth it. The outside is impressive but the tour is a must. You get to see the mansion furnished and how it took a full crew of servants to help keep the place operating.

The farm is very cool. Lots of animals and lots of people doing period activities. It is very well set up and the blacksmith shop was pretty cool. The house is interesting and the tour is very detailed. Detailed to the point that I was ready by the time it ended.

Great day out. Our guide was very clear and very knowledgeable. The house is extremely well kept. I really enjoyed both the house and the old style farm. The old style houses were fantastically done

Beautiful day out. Free entry to grounds which is fantastic. There is a charge for the house tour. Restaurant and shop on site. Beautiful walks and a little hidden beach by the lake. Great place for a picnic also.

Lovely estate surrounded by a beautiful garden. We visited in late spring when the rhododendron bushes were in full bloom. The guided tours were very busy so we skipped those in favor of a stroll through the gardens and the rock garden, and finished off with a nice lunch at the restaurant.

Seasonal: Grass lawns from the House to the lake are heavily infected with acarids (mites). We removed at least few tens from each person after having some leisure there plus few to several tens from our clothes. And no caution signs about this!!! We just hope they are not infected with something dangerous to people because few of them were removed from our bodies only next morning. Otherwise good place to visit, good canteen.
