This is a lovely site hidden away which is in a well kept environment, which gives you a good sense of what the building is like. The castle is lovely inside and the staff here are very welcoming and love to chat, so don't hold back on asking any questions. There are many things to see here, with lots of walking routes and a nice tea room for when you are peckish!

Nice place. Member of staff aggressive with telling us to take our rucksacks off. I understand the principle when walking around the castle but to shout it from the other side of the main lobby was unnecessary and impolite. A quiet word would have been sufficient. Tainted the experience. Great stew in the cafe which recovered the two star rating.

Up front, they usually pay me to attend as I'm a locksmith! However, I am also a National Trust member, and have now visited a few times with family. Friendly staff, large and lovely place, with a lot to see and do. Nice kids play area, and a surprisingly good cafe/restaurant. Also nearby is Berrington Hall, which is also worth a visit.

Good visit. Had a brief look around the gardens and a good lunch. Having a yearly subscription means that a brief visit can be good value.

Loved this place, we will definitely make this a regular walking spot. Dog and child friendly with different walks and lengths to suit everyone.

Really worth a visit. The grounds are fabulous and castle is very interesting. Large tea room. Great play area for children. Lots of walks around the park land.

Lovely parkland and castle. Kids enjoyed doing the trail and the castle playground. Tea rooms were also nice though a little cramped.

Interesting historical castle. Take the attic tour which is free and informative. Great walks, particularly when the weather improves. Menu, as with many National Trust venues is unimaginative, limited and not cheap.

Lovely castle and grounds that are well worth a visit especially on a very sunny day as we experienced. Food good in the Tea Room BUT if you want to avoid a bad stomach I suggest you take your own cutlery. There is a serious lack of hygiene when it comes to washing the used cutlery. Food from the previous user(s) stuck to them. Sort it NT ! Rating reflects the Tea Room experience.

Croft House is a fantastic old "house". The rooms were well labelled and knowledgeable volunteers were on-hand to answer questions. You were allowed to touch items and sit on furniture (even play a piano and try your hand at 1950s games)! All rooms and decorations/furniture had descriptions. You couldn't access the entire house as there are still residents in some areas of the house; but there was still plenty to explore. Make sure the kids get the seek-and-find pamphlets! The whole family enjoyed being able to "pretend" it was our house! The grounds are expansive and there are numerous walking trails; the Old Tree (1000 year old Oak!) walk was amazing. You could easily spend half a day here.

Just been on a guided Geology tour of the Croft Castle Estate. What a great day. The people who led the tour were from the local geological society and they make Geology very interesting. The limestone under your feet was laid down 400 million years ago and you can see the imprints of fossils. From the top of the Iron Age hill fort you can see into Wales on a clear day.

The castle itself was lovely. Very cosy for an aristocratic abode! The restaurant, however, was disappointing. Very few and uninspiring choices for lunch. Later, (around 3pm) when my friends and I fancied our usual cream tea, they'd run out of scones! Over the past 3 years, the food offered at National Trust properties does not stand comparison with previous years. In the past, locally produced fresh food has been the order of the day. No longer, as far as I can judge. Standards are slipping.

One of our favourite places. We have a very adventurous 4 yr old son, who loves it here. The castle themed play ground is a big hit, but the real secret gem is the nature playground, so much bigger than we expected and loads to do. Croft also has a lovely cafe and clean toilet facilities. The walled garden is beautiful too

Lots to see and do, a bit pricey if you're not an NT member, but if you spend the whole day there, well worth it. Children loved the adventure playground, with lots of tree swings and den-building. The castle itself was lovely to explore and especially loved how friendly and welcoming the staff made us feel, with many places to relax and objects to touch and try. Informative and fun.

Amazing day out! Plenty to do and see, for all ages. Have a great play area for kids. Long and short trails to walk. History, heritage and gardens are fantastic. Visit now if not done so already!!

Easy parking and a short walk to the castle, with a quick and useful welcome from one of the volunteers. Only six rooms and if you can't manage the stairs, a level walk back to the entrance. Great views outside from the front, and if you have the energy a walk to the lake. At the rear of the castle, and you can walk right around it, is the walled garden. Wildlife is obviously encouraged, and on a sunny July day butterflies, bees, and half a dozen or so bird species were in evidence. A small children's castle is adjacent the tea room to allow them to explore, play, and give their imagination free range while you recover. Picnicking encouraged and many families taking advantage.

Lovely grounds and tea room. Several walks of differing difficultly (from buggy friendly 1.5 miles up to challenging and difficult in spots 5 miles). Only a few rooms in the castle are open to the public as the Croft family still live there, however the rooms that are open are interesting and well presented. There is also a small chapel.
