The German Mining Museum in Bochum (German: Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum) or DBM is one of the most visited museums in Germany with around 365,700 visitors per year (2012). It is the largest mining museum in the world, and a renowned research establishment for mining history.
Above-ground exhibitions, and a faithfully reconstructed show mine below the museum terrain give visitors insights into the world of mining. The main areas of research by the scientists are the History and Technology of Mining (Geschichte und Technik des Montanwesens), and the Documentation and Conservation of Cultural Artefacts (Dokumentation und Schutz von Kulturgut). As a research institute, the museum is a member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Community.
The museum is awesome, very long tunnels with a lot of interesting tools and machines.

Very interesting for the hole family and incredible opportunity to go into a mine several meters below the ground

The museum is very attractive. We can go into the mining area and explore all the area by walk. They have also a simulator, which give us a real feeling of going into mine. You have chance to see mining equipment, drilling machines, vagons and old telephones, which they used. There is also a nice cafeteria. In the museum there is several valuable things you can see. From the tower you can see the nearst places and city overview.

June 2018 the museum is under renovation. You vac visit the "mock" coal mine but the exhibition is largely closed. Prices are adapted accordingly. The experience is still interesting but laclsua significant portion of the total museum.

The German Mining Museum is a showroom for deep cole mining. The environment looks authentically. All machines were original and functionally but are now secured and safe for Kids to play on. During a guided tour some machines are operated.

The largest and best of its kind - an actual closed mine site. Mining and rescue artifacts used in the parts on display with description in English also!

This museum is a must see in the area. The Ruhr mining history is really interesting and a big part of the district's DNA. The mining companies have to pump water for forever to avoid the whole area to be flooded.

One of the best museums in the world!! Fantastic underground mine with machines that actually work. Been there many times, I love it. Unfortunately it is getting renovated atm and not all areas are accessible.
