Dalkey ( DAW-kee; Irish: Deilginis, meaning 'thorn island') is an affluent suburb of Dublin, and a seaside resort southeast of the city, and the town of Dún Laoghaire, in the historic County Dublin, Ireland. It was founded as a Viking settlement and became an active port during the Middle Ages. According to chronicler John Clyn (c.1286–c.1349), it was one of the ports through which the plague entered Ireland in the mid-14th century. In modern times, Dalkey has become a seaside suburb that attracts some tourist visitors.
One of Dublin's wealthiest districts, it has been home to writers and celebrities including George Bernard Shaw, Jane Emily Herbert, Maeve Binchy, Robert Fisk, Hugh Leonard, Bono, the Edge, Van Morrison and Enya. Dalkey lies within the jurisdiction of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council.

I arrived at the posted time for this attraction to be open. 2 minutes later, an employee/worker comes out the front door and locks it. I had to ask if the Castle will be open, then she turned to me and say well if you're here tomorrow it'll be open. Mind you, I am a tourist from the United States of America so my time was limited.

Live close by and knew nothing about this most interesting castle , very informative guide. Will return, a great place to bring your visitors and then have a coffee or lunch in the beautiful village.

I highly recommend to visit this castle! The visit is very entertaining and you can also go in top of the castle. The staff is very welcoming too.

It's a well designed interactive experience with actors dressed in medieval clothes and telling facts in medieval English. The "castle" is actually what they call a typical fortified townhouse, a popular construction in medieval Ireland. It's got all the elements such as machiculation, murder hole and...toilet! It's furnished inside and they take you to the rooftop. The view from there is stunning. There is an interesting Heritage Centre on the ground floor with access to St Begnet’s Church & Graveyard. In the heritage centre there are interactive screens with chronological time lines and scaled models telling the story of Dalkey from its origins (allow time to read that!).

Simply AMAZING!!!! Culture, history, entertainment and fun in one place. It’s a MUST. Thanks, Tereza for being a great guide. Thanks to all the excellent costumed actors who made us feel the experience even more realistic and fun!
