Dalhousie Castle is a castle in Cockpen, Midlothian, Scotland. Dalhousie Castle is situated near the town of Bonnyrigg, 8 miles (13 km) south of Edinburgh. The castle was the seat of the Earls of Dalhousie, the chieftains of Clan Ramsay.
The patriarch of the clan was Simundus de Ramesie (Simon of Ramsey), an English knight of Norman descent from the Huntingdonshire village of Ramsey. Simundus, a vassal of David, Earl of Huntingdon, followed his lord to Scotland in about 1140, when David inherited the Scottish crown. He is considered the founder of the Ramsay clan and the first to have lands at Dalwolsey.

Fantastic historic castle. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We had lunch in the Orangery which was delicious. There were people having afternoon tea which fantastic too. Had a wander around the castle and it has another dungeon restaurant with suits of armour dotted around. Great venue for weddings.

I was here for a wedding so I cannot comment on the rooms. Staff were very nice and polite, the place was very well presented and the meals were fantastic. Great views outside and around the castle with good parking. You can see there is a lot of history within this castle and the owners do a great job of up-keeping. Local shops about 5 min drive, so you’re not in the middle of nowhere.

This is an absolutely beautiful castle. The staff are ultra-helpful, the food is amazing and the rooms are full of old-world charm. The entire place is steeped in nearly a thousand years of history which makes it feel really special. The grounds are beautiful too, and there's even a falconry centre on site!

Amazing place with everything! Falconry, history, gorgeous scenery and a fantastic restaurant in the dungeons! Top class food, rooms large and well equipped, beds with memory foam toppers too. A wedding here is unbelievable, a pretty chapel, a Piper and an owl to deliver the rings - wow! Very impressed.

The room was lovely and the views where stunning. But there was. £50 holding fee that was took from my card. The bill was paid in full and three days later and disputes between the bank and the castle still no frisky back into my bank. This is terrible service as after paying 220 for a room for a night And not being told a further 50 will be put on hold for a couple of days. Absolutely shocking admin

Though our stay was very brief, the chance to stay the night in a real castle was great fun. It is a very interesting place and in a setting which encourages an evening walk. Lovely surroundings and very helpful staff. I would definitely like to stay again, longer next time. Recommend it.

We had our wedding here in December 2017. It was absolutely incredible. Having planned the whole thing from the US, everyone was so patient and accommodating. After I told them what I wanted, they took care of everything and I didn't worry about a thing! It was perfect. The staff, event planners, and everyone else were so professional and kind. And the food was AMAZING. I HIGHLY recommend the chicken if you are trying to choose wedding food!
