The shops are fun to look around and get a few things from. Loved walking down all the streets and checking out all the gorgeous architecture. Dress warm it's quite cold up there in the month of January. And have your camera's ready for all the cool pics you'll be taking.

It was great learning about the history of the castle. There were some amazing views once you get up there. I loved seeing the crown jewels and the going through all of the history which led to them. Obviously this is a must see while in Edinburgh. There is also a nice place where you can get tea while you are there.

While of course Edinburgh castle itself is just mind-blowing and amazing, I think the people working there really made the visit. We had some wonderful, enthusiastic, incredibly knowledgeable tour guides whom we just loved. There were great presentations put on, such as the one o'clock gun and a weapons showcase, which were just so cool. Was a bit disappointed you're not allowed to take pictures of certain things such as the Stone of Destiny and the Scottish Crown Jewels (of course you can buy postcards and models in the gift shop though). Overall, really wonderful place. I can't wait to come back to Scotland and spend many days exploring it.

Excellent castle and it's really interesting, with plenty to explore. You could honestly spend a whole afternoon there. The entrance is pretty pricey, but you have the option to tag along to a guided tour for no extra cost. Make sure you get there for the 1 o'clock gunfire. Be warned, it does get busy for viewing it. The staff were also excellent; very knowledgeable and friendly, eager to answer any questions.

Interesting place, but not cheap. Book online but be careful to do it through their own website, which is about 8 down on google. We messed up but the very helpful staff sorted it out for us. Restaurant is very expensive, but the quality was good which softens the blow a little. If you read everything going round the place you would be there all day. Knew nothing of Scottish history before I went, now have some idea and will read more.

It's a nice, majestic castle as castles go. If you visit there make sure you take the audio commentary for a small extra amount. On the audio guide you can press the relevant button and listen to the history of each spot as you walk around the castle. From the terraces of the castle you can see the whole Edinburgh in most directions. If you go in summer make sure you have ample sun protection as you'd be outdoors a lot of time. Also, don't buy any whisky before you visit the castle whisky shop. They have many great brands there at very attractive prices.

Edinburgh Castle is a beautiful, historical, and extremely large location. Any history buff MUST visit Edinburgh Castle!! I recommend taking a whole day to visit the castle, if you are very interested in the site. It is truly massive, with over 25 areas in the castle to see. There is an entire museum within the castle, too! There are beautiful views of the city and surrounding areas of the castle. There are beautiful buildings within the castle to see. The Memorial is a very moving building full of the darker side of its history. The cannon shot at 1pm is a must if you are there! The Crown Jewels is also beautiful and mystical. The multiple gift shops have great trinkets and gifts to buy for friends and loved ones. Edinburgh Castle is worth every pound spent and every minute looking. You will love it if you're into this sort of thing! Enjoy!

Entry costs £ 17. You better arrive early as later in the day you have to wait quite some time to buy a ticket. You can book over the internet, but I didn't try that option. Even if you aren't very interested in history it is a great place to quickly learn something about Scotland and you can enjoy a great view all over the city. If you love history then you can easily spend a whole day with so much to see. And you can find good places for lunch and afternoon tea too. I found the audio guide very helpful as you can get all the information you want when you want it.

Really long queues and expensive, so please go really early! But no matter how much you'll wait, you will really like it. This place is preserved quite well, lots of explanations around the castle and an audio guide can also come in handy. The castle has a beautiful view of the whole city, great photo opportunities with cannons, and overall great fun! PS: wear comfortable shoes, you will walk a lot both to and in the castle

Nice castle with lots of interesting exhibitions to see. There's also a whiskey tasting where you can also get a lot of different whiskeys local to Scotland. It's probably best to try and avoid prime time (e.g. Sundays) if you want to spend time looking at all the museums since they can get quite crowded. Also be aware that the one o'clock gun doesn't operate on Sundays. Definitely bring your camera if you enjoy taking panorama shots.

Excellent location, nice walk up The Royal Mile to this stunning castle. It's about £16.50 per person so I recommend buying a Historic Scotland pass for about £40.00 if you think you will be visiting a few times, plus it will give access to all the other HS sites across Scotland. We were lucky enough to visit on the Queens birthday so there was a military procession on with cannon fires in celebration. Tons of history and I would recommend a full day plus the tour guides are excellent, they know so much history about not just the castle but stories from surrounding areas through the hundreds of years in Scottish history of Edinburgh Old Town. Great cafe and prices are very reasonable. Wrap up warm though as many areas are sheltered & windy but be prepared to be changing between a fleece or t-shirt on warmer days.

Edinburgh Castle is a hugely popular tourist destination and with good reason. This historic location truly lives up to the hype; set aside a whole morning or afternoon when you visit because there is so much to see including the Scottish crown jewels, three museums, a chapel that dates back hundreds upon hundreds of years and a whisky gift shop that offers free tasters. When I went, it coincided with the Queen's birthday and so there was a gun salute as well as a marching band and changing of the guard ceremonies. That's only once a year but it's the best time to go, if you can schedule your visit again. Also, do we award that there is a lot of walking and the hills are especially steep so it's not ideal if you're not able bodied.

Beautiful and amazing historic place. It was a sunny day even though still cold but we enjoyed the scenery and surroundings. I suggest you wear a pair of comfortable shoes as there are many stairs and the area is a bit hilly. It is well maintained and we can see the new town from the top. We spent around 2 hours there, taking pictures and looking around inside the Castle.

A really cool place to walk back in time. Not the most ornate castle, it was definitely built for defense and is an impressive sight. There are many things to see and mysteries to unfold. I highly recommend it, but do yourself a favor and buy your tickets online and bring some comfy walking shoes, you will be glad you did.

I loved the visit to the castle. There is so much history there. I like the way they have various items around to help share the history of the site. Many interesting shops nearby as well and along the royal mile. Hope I will be able to go see the Military Tattoo in late summer at one point. Certainly worth a visit in my opinion.

Nice day out, the place is busy but well presented. You have to have patience and good eyesight to read some of the information on the displays. But the selections on display are really interesting. Easy to get around although it looked like a few people where struggling with prams at some staircases as lift signs where not obvious. I would recommend visiting as it can easily take 3 or more hours to get around. The Royal apartments where closed when we came so missed seeing the living spaces which would have been good.

In October 2017 I went here with a friend of mine and I really had a wonderful experience there to which I would like to repeat again! I had uploaded a number of images I have taken around there for inclusion. Great for the price, excellent tour guide of the premises and was there for the firing of the gun where there was a fantastic back story. This is a family friendly place, to which I would suggest people to go, though the main part is disable friendly, there are parts of the castle which are not - you need to take into account though when the castle was originally built. Giving this a 5 star!

Not cheap to get in, but there is a lot to see and I imagine it's expensive to maintain! Purchasing tickets online in advance is recommended. We found that it didn't make a great deal of difference if you got in early, but by midday the queue for tickets was snaking around quite a way. We enjoyed the guided tour but did not try the audio tour. Most of the on-site museums and displays were very engaging but we could have skipped the regimental ones.

The castle in Edinburgh is a must see. Though not the most exciting of Scottish castles, you definitely will enjoy yourself. The St Margaret chapel is the prettiest spot. Also, the prisoners of war exhibit was great! Make sure you check out the carvings the prisoners made in the prison doors as well as all the crafts they made to sell. Definitely order your tickets online before you go. You need to book the day before if you want to go in the morning.

Great castle, lots to see and do here. Reasonably priced, audio guide available, most parts accessible. Good mix of indoor and outside things to see and do. It does get very busy so early arrival recommended if you don’t want to be in the crowds.
