The Georgian House Charlotte Square Nr. 7 ist ein Wohnhaus in Edinburgh in Schottland. Es steht am Charlotte Square, einem Garden square in Edinburgh, und ist Teil der Planstadt New Town, einer UNESCO-Welterbestätte im Vereinigten Königreich. Charlotte Square als Teil der New Town geht auf einen Entwurf des Architekten James Craig zurück. Seit 1956 gehört das Gebäude dem National Trust for Scotland (NTS), der dort ein Museum betreibt.
The Georgian House ist ein Stadthaus in der New Town von Edinburgh, das sich seit 1956 im Besitz des National Trust for Scotland befindet, der heute dort ein Museum betreibt, das das Leben und die Umstände einer wohlhabenden Familie zum Ende des 18. und Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts zeigt. Es ist Teil des Ensembles Charlotte Square 1–11 an der Nordseite des dortigen Parks, das vom Historic Environment Scotland in der schottischen Denkmalliste in die höchste Kategorie A aufgenommen wurde. Das Museum beherbergt eine Sammlung von Gemälden schottischer Maler dieser Zeit, u. a. Henry Raeburn, Allan Ramsay und Alexander Nasmyth. Neben den Gemälden zeigt das Museum eine Sammlung von Möbeln, Gebrauchsgegenstände wie Porzellan, Besteck, Gläser und weitere Einrichtungsgegenstände. Es gibt auch spezielle Ausstellungsstücke wie ein Lehrspiel zur Musikerziehung. Die Erfinderin Ann Young erhielt dafür 1801 ein Patent, das einzige Patent, das 1801 in Schottland einer Frau erteilt wurde. Aber nicht nur das Leben der höheren Gesellschaft (Masters) wird präsentiert, auch das Leben der Diener (Servants) und des Küchenpersonals wird dargestellt.

A very impressive house orginally designed by Robert Adams. It allows you to see a typical Edinburgh house of the late 18th century. They have collections of furniture, porcelain, silver and glass that reflect the lifestyle of this period in Edinburgh's history. Well worth a visit.

A lovely NT property, sad the attic wasnt open. The kitchens and bellow stairs are always the best bits and this one didn't let me down- the lovely NT fellow down there was brilliant, as was the other lad in the dining room and the lady on the desk. You can dress up (adults especially!) and understand the owners of the property over the years.

I am so pleased that we visited this little gem tucked just outside the shopping hotspots. It was a beautiful building, rich with information provided on displays, on hand-outs you could carry around the room, and from the extremely knowledgeable guides who were eager to share their expertise. There was also a very well made short film at the start which helped to contextualise the building and the point in time.

An interesting look into the life and home of a gentleman and his family from the 1700's. Great detail put into the furnishings of the home. I loved that you can get close to everything, unlike most museums where the rooms are cordoned off.

So fascinating - like stepping back through time. This is an exceptional house is located in the New Town just off Princess Street and well worth a visit whilst in Edinburgh. There are friendly knowledgable guides who can answer any questions which makes the entire experience feel more personal and interesting. The attraction is open daily over the summer between 9am and 5pm - last entry is around 4.15pm so make sure you give yourselves enough time to visit the attraction. Entry is in included with the Edinburgh City Pass which is sold at the VisitScotland information centre on Princess Street.

Great experience, fascinating house and very knowledgeable and pleasant staff. We enjoyed strolling round the Georgian Newtown area too and so much quieter and more pleasant than the hustle and bustle of the Rpyal Mile and Princes Street.
