Holyrood Abbey ist die Ruine eines Chorherrenstifts in Edinburgh, das 1128 von König David I. errichtet wurde.
If you take the palace tour you get here as well. Good if you are in to old ruins.
Stunning architecture and atmosphere. A quiet space to wander through. Exit through the front and then follow the garden paths to the right that provide a lovely walk through the grounds or the palace.
This was actually my favourite part of our visit to the Holyrood Palace and grounds. The Abbey is a very imposing, atmospheric, and yet remarkably well maintained ruin. I wish we had visited during the summer, when more of the grounds would have been open to the public!
Fantastic tour. Must take audio guide.
Well kept abbey ruins behind the Palace of Holyroodhouse
Please visit and enjoy the corridors filled with history. don't miss
Absolutely breathtaking. As an archeologystudent studying churches my heart wept.
As a member of English Heritage I could have got in free to see the Abbey but unfortunately I had to pay to see the Palace as well - at a whopping price of £14. You have to go through the Palace first, then eventually the Abbey and finally into the gardens where you get good views of the Palace, Abbey, Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat. Fairly crowded for the time of the year (August).
