The Van Abbemuseum (Dutch pronunciation: [vɑn ˈɑbəmyˌzeːjɵm]) is a museum of modern and contemporary art in central Eindhoven, Netherlands, on the east bank of the Dommel River. Established in 1936, the museum is named after its founder, Henri van Abbe, who loved modern art and wanted to enjoy it in Eindhoven. As of 2010, the collection of the museum housed more than 2700 works of art, of which about 1000 were on paper, 700 were paintings, and 1000 were sculptures, installations and video works.
The museum has an area of 9,825 m2 and holds one of the largest collections of paintings in the world by El Lissitzky. It also has works by Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky.

Really enjoyed visiting and had some excellent exhibitions on. Worth a visit if you're in Eindhoven.

What an amazing museum! Such a huge selection, quite a variety of exhibits & each one is unique. In a beautiful spot by the canal. The layout looks confusing, but is very simple & easy to get around. Free on the first Tuesday of every month from 15:00-17:00, you will definitely need the 2 hrs to experience it properly.

The old part is not too big, but the new part of the museum is full of art! It truly amazed us how many things were there and although we spent there more than two hours, we wish we had more time. It is a must see in Eindhoven, but might be a bit overwhelming.

It's a famous museum for modern art and sure my contribution is subjective. My experience is that the art displayed is so open minded...the proverbial brain has fallen out. Good for a museum hunter...tick the box. Im sure you will find something interesting as did I but you really have to search and look for it.

The first floor is a bit random - political activism, different nation contemporary art, different story pieces. But the other floors are really cool - they have more or less the same message with very interesting installations.

Well curated but not too big. Too much video work

Worth a visit (fair price). They have very good exhibitions that are clearly building upon lots of expertise. The art that is shown is interesting and often politically related; it makes you think about what is going on. They have fun collaborations with (local) artists.
