Hawkshead and Claife is a National Trust property made up of much of the town of Hawkshead and surrounding Claife Woodlands in Cumbria, England. Overlooking Windermere itself is Claife Station, the ruins of a residence notable for the fact that each room was glazed in differing coloured glass to give the effect of viewing the landscape in the changing seasons.
Hawkshead is home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery, another National Trust property. The Trust also owns four miles of access along Windermere lakeshore.
A very steep climb with a double pushchair up to the top viewing platform. The views were lovely from the platform though so worth the climb. I liked the stain glass window frame to look out of (see pictures). The children liked running around up there. The is a cafe at the bottom. They did not have a stamp for my National Trust visitors passport book. Not much parking directly next to it. Would recommend a visit for the lovely views.

Its a lovely folly style two storey viewing point over lake Windermere with interesting features such as coloured frames around windows to give a different perspective on nature. The walk from the car park is easy and there is a small national trust cafe to grab refreshments if you need them with outdoor and indoor seating. We really enjoyed our visit to Claife and will visit again. Great for families

The claife viewing station gives you incredible view of the lake with the hills forming the background. We visited during winter. The view we got was awesome, the lake with the snow capped hills forming the background and the setting sun giving the snow cap a yellow tinge.

Was absolutely gobsmacked by the views. You can see the whole lake. And the view never gets old. It somehow manages to look different everytime

Great place for a family day out. Easy to reach from Bowness via the ferry or take a lovely drive though hawkshead. The viewing station is a easy walk up for fantastic views over the lake. The cherry on the cake is the courthouse cafe. Perfect food for all ages

Lots of local parking that's free if you have a National Trust Membership. Car parks were ALL clean, well kept and displaying local and topical information. The Claife Viewing Point was great - I really didn't expect it to be a castle. The open plan of the castle is really atmospheric. It provides lots of differing viewing angles of Lake Windermere. There wasn't an art installation when we visited but the 'frames', different light filters available and of course the views themselves we more than impressive. After the steep climb & steps to the castle Viewing Point you can pick a steep forest route or flat road path to walk all the way along Lake Windermere to Wray Castle. We took the easy route!

A lovely place to stop and stroll if you have time before the windemere ferry. I took my paddle board out while friends had a coffee stop. Quiet and tranquil and super views of the lakes and access to the lakeside woodlands. Owned by the National Trust so membership very useful for free parking!

Great place to go. The view from the viewpoint at Clair highs is amazing for the quick walk up. If it's a nice day to sit at the café below having a drink looking at the view you could be anywhere.

Great views from here of the lake. A lovely National Trust guide called David approached us and gave us the history of the place and what it was used for. Very interesting.
