The Balathandayuthapani Temple, officially the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Kovil, better known as the Waterfall Hill Temple or "Thaneer Malai" (Tamil: அருள்மிகு பாலதண்டாயுதபாணி கோயில்) by locals, is a temple complex located in George Town, Penang. The main deity of this temple is Murugan. Visitors need to climb 513 stairs to reach the temple. It is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia, after the Batu Caves. The hilltop temple, with its seven-storey 21.6m-tall gopuram (main tower), has been touted as the largest Lord Murugan temple outside India.
Better to not visit under burning sun. I went there when the temple is closed no place to buy a water bittle but the envirinment is worth visiting.
temple priest need to learn manner. Priest is very biased. Devotee who offers money to the priest earns the respect. Archanai receipt caretaker is biased as well.
Great temple architecture. Fantastic overall Penang island city view from hill top. Do not expose foods or water bottle as it will attract monkeys and quite fierce (might come suddenly as a group). Good exercise as well upon reaching temple hill top :)
The main temple is on the hill top to go there you have to climb 531 steps. Its tiring yet a good and best journey along with beautiful view. The temple construction is well done. All the structure is welly crafted. A must to visit.

Best Lord Murugan Temple in penang. And one of popular temple for celebrating thaipusam.
Strange that during my time in Penang nobody really spoke about this temple. It is quite the hike on your bare feet hundreds of steps but an impressive Indian temple is the reward.
Religious place of worship and a nice place to be visited by tourist and for hikers to climb the 572 steps . The temple is a beautiful worship place and down the.hill you can go to botanical garden .
Very beautiful murugan temple which is well maintained. The new hill peak addition is beautiful. Distance to the peak is increased now. Very peaceful atmosphere and very calming. Must visit
513 stairs to climb up, should try only in a cloudy weather. Carry water while climbing. Still some construction is going on. Temple is very big and beautiful. View from top is beautiful and scenic. It's a Hindu temple with statue of lord Shiva and Ganesha.
