Gurney Drive is a popular seafront promenade within George Town, Penang, Malaysia. The road is also famous for the street cuisine at the seafront's hawker centre and has been listed as one of the 25 best streets worldwide to visit by the Australian travel magazine, The Traveller. In addition, Gurney Drive has become part of George Town's second Central Business District due to the mushrooming of skyscrapers and shopping malls.
I've stayed here before and passed this hotel every time we visit Gurney Plaza and I can say that the lobby is large, welcoming, and generally quiet. The rooms are average and affordable. It's close to many hot tourist spots too.
Very good facility for conference. Good view of the sea from across the hall. Clean and spacious rooms, helpful staff and very well-maintained facilities, what more could anyone ask for? The lobby may get a little busy at times because it's right next to Gurney Plaza, but it never fails to lose it's decorum. Snacks served in the executive lounge are scrumptious despite a select few being repetitive. Convenience is a plus if you stay here as all your needs can be met in the mall next door.
I had a wonderful experience there. Stayed 3 nights. The hotel staff was amazing. Food in the cafe was good. The lounge upstairs was very good. The gym is great! I wish I took more pictures to post of it as that was important to me but it is very well done for a hotel gym. Smith machine, incline bench, dumbbells that go up to 100lbs, good cable machines, and plenty of cardio equip. Be careful of the 6pm people that are there, seems like there are some regulars that come in and take over.
This hotel is pretty nice compared to most. It has a very modern feel to it. The rooms are very spacious and unique - perfect for wanting to just relax and get away from the heat. My one complaint is that the room servicing could use a bit of work. There was (long) hair in the bathtub that I found when I first checked in. There also seemed to be an ant problem because my bathroom had about five of them crawling around the sink at any given time. This is my first time staying at the hotel so I'm guessing I just got a unique case here, but it's still something that I don't even see at hotels in the 2 or 3 star range. There was also a lot of noise coming from my bathroom? I think I might have been next to a lot of the pipes running throughout the building. However, I only heard it when I was actually in the bathroom despite the bed being right next to it. Overall, I'll take the positives of the hotel weighed against the negatives against any other hotel... Except for the ants. I could go without the ants.
Stayed here twice and very satisfied with the quality of the rooms and ambience. It is connected to Gurney Plaza mall so it is very convenient for shopping or getting food. The hotel upgraded me to executive room for free and the room was perfect. Super spacious and luxurious with a big bath. Highly Recommended though it is quite pricey
